Wewus432 Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 I read a thread in The Guitar Forum and Myles was talking about amps he builds, and he mentioned this monster. I think it has 1.3 Kilowatts of output. Check this out- The Arena Amp
GeorgeVW Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Reminds me of a show I saw about 20 years ago. Bad Swedish metal band TNT opening for the Kinks. TNT had about 6 full Marshall stacks on stage, and had them all fired up. The FOH guy couldn't get the vocals audible at all. Dave Davies comes out with a tiny 1x12 combo propped up on a chair, and kicked their butts. George
Jotown Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Oh yeah, I need one of those...... Like a hooker needs herpes. :D Jotown:) "It's all good: Except when it's Great"

Gato Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Oh my God, It's unsense something like that, I don't need that amp.
not coaster MODERATOR Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 back in the old days we'd of bought one of these just to piss off our parents
Wewus432 Posted December 18, 2002 Author Posted December 18, 2002 I'm going to buy one of these and rent a cabin on top of a remote mountain somewhere, (might have to take a big generator). Then I'm going to crank it up all the way and just start wailing and playing every shitty rock song I've ever know, and just wait for the cops to come. It'll probably take them a while to find me the way sound echoes around in the mountains. Maybe if I see them coming I'll stop playing and throw a blanket over the amp and say " I didn't hear anything". Then as soon as they get about 20 miles away I'll start playing again, stuff like Smoke on the water........Fire in the Sky
G. Ratte Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 from the pdf:
The suggested front end for this amplifier is a Line 6 POD, either 2.0 version or the XT product.
Wait, this sounds like it's just a PA amp. G. Ratte' http://www.cultdeadcow.com
Wow Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 The biggest amp in the world was in the movie "Back to the Future".
Hanshananigan Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 I've been looking for a pic of that Back to the Future rig for 2 days...

I was looking for a pix of it to post a few weeks ago, but couldn't find one. BP3 Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Has anybody heard the "Trainwreck"? It's the loudest 25 watt amp I've ever heard, easily louder than any Marshall.
Wow Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 I had to sell my marshall 1/2 stack. Kept breaking the pics on the walls. I sold it, wife made me. I got a Fender blues amp. Pretty good amp.
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002
Originally posted by gratte: from the pdf:
The suggested front end for this amplifier is a Line 6 POD, either 2.0 version or the XT product.
Wait, this sounds like it's just a PA amp.
Do not call my amp a PA. PA's don't have tubes, and, and , and, it is too a guitar amp. I'd like to build this amp to look like a real guitar amp with a little ladder on the side to get up to the input, a tube preamp, and real big knobs. Then you could use it for publiicity stunts or to make a point. You could put it on a trailer and pull up in front of Sony Records and blow all their windows out with an E chord as a statement against the tyranny of the record business. Power To The People! There are many uses for an amp like this.
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 I want my really big guitar amp! A long time ago I went to a pig picking up in the mountains. We had a little stage set up and people were playing mostly bluegrass and acoustic music BUT my friend had a Marshall Full Stack that he left setup. So the next afternoon after everybody left I plugged in and cranked it all the way and just started wailing, well, I figured it was time to quit when I saw the cops coming down the road. They said something like "Boy, we can hear that about 10 miles away from here. Now shutup!" So I just want to recreate that feeling of raw sonic power that can make the trees sway.
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 Are you people crazy! You don't just let a great topic like this slip away. Is that not a great idea to have a really big guitar amp ? With an amp like that I could get a part in the next Spiderman movie as Spiderman's nemesis Rockola, er something like that. Did anybody notice this?In the first Spiderman movie the villain looks like one of the monsters from The Power Rangers. That kind of ruined that movie for me so I think the next villain SHOULD be an evil rock star with a really big amp.
The Bear Jew Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 I need this. I must have it. My band just played with a mid-sized stoner rock band that used those "Matamp" rigs, and they were SO fucking loud. I could hear them plainly when I was sitting in my van outside of the club -- a half block away! The guitars were louder than my whole band put together. This can never, ever happen again. Wewus... please help me build one of these. I won't be happy until I can knock our audience's spines out of their assholes at 30 feet. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 Finally, someone understands what I'm talking about. I knew I could count on you Eric. YES , we will build this amp, and those who doubted, will rue the day that they did not align themselves with our plan or at least buy some really good ear plugs.
The Bear Jew Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Thank you, Wewus. What was I thinking, messing around with a measly 100-watt rig? Let's see the world ignore us with this monster on our side. Grrrrarrrrrr! YOU'LL ALL HAVE TO LISTEN NOW!!! D'ya think we'll need earplugs? Can we build one for the bass player? Should we mic the drums? Will Blue Cheer be jealous? \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 I'm thinking I would only play this amp outside which is what it's made for and then of course always stand behind it, behind the line of fire, but we'd have to do some sound pressure reading and then wear plugs if neccessary and maybe hand them out to the audience and get them to sign a release. A bass amp of that caliber could potentially be more damaging than the guitar amp, so we'd have to do some research there and then of course mic the drums through about 100 or so Crown power amps. This could be a real claim to fame Oh yeah you're that guy who caused the rockslide and made all those people go deaf. DIE SPIDERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The Bear Jew Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 We need to play it outside... in a big-ass field... at night... with a light show. Oh crap... who's gonna build the light show? We're gonna need three or four times as many lights and explosions than what Kiss uses... Gene Simmons already looks like a wuss when compared to me, but I have to totally SQUASH him. He can keep the merchandising rights, but I want to be known as the real "God Of Thunder And Rock N' Roll." In fact... can everyone just start calling me that from now on? \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
PBBPaul Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 From the specs page: "Minimal speaker configuration should be eight 4x12 cabinets (if 100 watt cabs), as not to overdrive the speaker cabinets." I guess we'd need to start playing some bigger stages! Our new and improved website Today's sample tune: Lonesome One
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 Here's the deal Paul. I want those speakers all in one cabinet, for better tone, and they'll take up less space that way. I'm talking about ONE gigantic, motherfunker amp.
Hanshananigan Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002
Originally posted by PBBPaul: From the specs page: "Minimal speaker configuration should be eight 4x12 cabinets (if 100 watt cabs), as not to overdrive the speaker cabinets."
This would be loud, but I don't think this would move enough air for what Wewus is talking about. How about a 19" cabinet with controlled nuclear fission to create a tonal, oscillating shock wave?
