Geoff Grace
First off, I have to admit to only a passing familiarity with all of the genres and subgenres of electronic dance music. But that's the wonderful thing about these forums - we have experts here on just about everything! I'm trying to get up to speed on what's hot and what's not. My impression is that trance is so out of style now that most of the prominent figures of that genre are trying to distance themselves from it. I know we have techno fans here and house seems ever popular. What about jungle and breakbeat? What about subgenres like drum n bass and garage? What's hot now and where are things headed? What artists best represent the happening styles? Thanks, as always, for your input! Yahoo
http://sayersweb.com/music/Index.html scroll down to CD info and listen to 1st Encounter. I don't know if this solo artist is hot, but I think he's very talented. http://thenewdeal.com/ Jam band of "live progressive break beat house." More spacey sounding that dark jugular break beat. Keyist plays a lot of Moog Rougue. Audio video section on home page. The Disco Biscuits. Mind blowing "trance fusion" jam band. click tune in to hear their live shows (archived) at www.biscoradio.com or listen to some older show, which sound differnt that the current ones at http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/The_Disco_Biscuits/ Keyist plays JP-8000, MS2K, Rhodes, MC505, Moog Voyager, XP80, Hammond. http://www.infected-mushroom.net/ Very talented duo of "psy Trance" Lotsa gear in studio and on stage. can hear a lot of thier music at the Music section on that page. http://www.breakbeat.co.uk/ has videos and audio of all the current and past drum&bass going on around the world. Ed Rush & Optical and Diesel Boy. http://www.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/galiwaves/index-0.html MAn is this solo artist hot. He's got all the groupies goin after him, but I don't think his site is working anymore. I never understood what distinguishes between genres and subgenres either, except for the major things like percussion usage. I was told that "psy trance" is trance with a lot of effects. Anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy at least on of those links.
Max Ventura
At the momenttruly popular is a jig played with a karrumph and a pair of octaleolets in a rhythm of 154-2-2, that you dance thrusting your knees and feet high up in countertempo and capering in punctuation. Geoff Grace
Thanks Jeebus. I've checked out Ishkur\'s Guide to Electronic music several times since I read about it in Keyboard or EQ a few months ago. I found it both informative and entertaining. A friend also turned me onto another guide: Electronic Scene .
