Could you point me to an instruction on how? Or does it entail knowledge of programming?

no programing involed. if you can cut/paste with the edit menu, you can do it. get resedit, (type resedit in google, its the first link), open the application from within resedit, look for an icon named "PICT", open that, there are all your pictures in the application. open a picture (its called a resource), COPY it, paste it into photoshop (or other app) and tweak away. when your done, paste it back into the same resource. save the app. need more help? p.s. DO NOT try and give protools le more than 24tracks........although it can be done

hey thanks midimonk, we must have been typing at the same time. yes please look into that for me. i am a mac guy, and i build legit windows setups all the time, but i have no idea how to mess them up like i do on a mac. my buddy was pretty damn impressed when i changed his "xlr8" startup graphic to something completely different.

Veracohr, you will also want to check out a website called ResExcellence. There, you can download a seemingly infinite number of startup screens, splashes, icons, etc., all submitted by creative people with a little time on their hands and an idea or two. Anyone can submit their creations, really, following certain guidelines. There are also script modifications so that functions can be customized as well (although I've never been quite brave enough to risk changing the way it works, just the way it looks). Two warnings: 1) ResEdit can be addictive. It's probably the biggest way you can customize your Mac and its applications. You may suffer from option paralysis. 2) DO NOT make any alterations to something that is in use; close all applications other than ResEdit when making the changes. As well, if you're working on the System Folder, work on a COPY of the System Folder (place it on your desktop), then replace the original System Folder with the modded one (only AFTER you've made a backup copy).
I've upped my standards; now, up yours.
