shniggens
What are your favorite synth sounds on the QS8? From cheesy 80's synth to dark and dirty, what sounds do you use the most when your band wants some synthetic action? What are your favorite sounds for synth brass, synth strings, monophonic lead, etc? Let's hear it, no matter what style you are playing! I would also like to see who uses what for what kind of style. Also, is their anyway to emulate a good Moog sound on the QS8? Amateur Hack
ksoper
One of my favorite synth patches on the QS8 is "Shine On..." which I tweaked. Last night I was working on something new and I used my tweaked version to emulate Minimoog until I actually set up my Voyager to replace the track. (I really need more room. It's sad when I only have room for one board at a time. But that's a little OT.) I've also used a bunch of synthy pads from the Extra banks collection. I prefer to back down the internal FX and use my Lexicon for verb/chorus/delay, but other than that, I still use and love my QS8. k. 9 Moog things, 3 Roland things, 2 Hammond things and a computer with stuff on it
coyote
It's funny. My band does "Shine On..." and I don't use the namesake patch for it (I ended up creating my own patch). I do employ the QS7.1 to provide the Gm pad, but I use the JP8000 for the sweep effects and for the leads. Between those sounds and the need for Hammond and Clavinet on that track, I just don't see how anyone could ever hope to play it on one board! I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Jeff Klopmeyer
You wanna hear a funny story about that patch? The guy who created it was a) not a Pink Floyd fan and b) had never heard the song "Shine On You Craxy Diamond" before. He's more of an electronica/techno guy. However, when reviewing and naming patches, the then head of the sound development group (Erik Norlander) heard it and immediately identified it as the Floyd sound (I think it's not bad at all, personally). The guy who wrote the patch had no idea what Erik was talking about. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon
shniggens
Yeah, Shine On is a nice one. Nice mix - spooky pad, and soaring lead. Interesting comment about the programmer. I really like Chromaphon - patch 95. I've been playing a little intro with roots and 5ths low in the bass and arpeggios in the right hand. Sounds really ... uh ... Chromaphonic. joegerardi
"Half Ton" on the Vintage Synth Q Card is slick. It's from Emo's GX-1 and you can really simulate a lot of stuff he did in the late 70's with that. ..Joe Setup: Korg Kronos 61, Roland XV-88, Korg Triton-Rack, Motif-Rack, Korg N1r, Alesis QSR, Roland M-GS64 Yamaha KX-88, KX76, Roland Super-JX, E-Mu Longboard 61, Kawai K1II, Kawai K4.
