Jeff Klopmeyer
Heh, yep he is. I never said you couldn't complain. Complain all you like if it makes you feel better. I would still prefer a free sponsored forum than a forum that costs me to join. But by all means, express your opinion, Carlo. I fully support your doing so. I don't love the ads either, but none of the moderators make any money for their work here, nor is there much compensation to the people who host the forums on their server. That's why I support the idea of the ads, even if I don't like the ads themselves. I thought that was the message from "suck it up and deal with it"... Complain all you like if it makes you feel better. The simple reason why I'm complaining is, if enough people from the forums would voice their disappoint, maybe they'll realize that setting the ads in such an obtrusive way (they change the layout of the entire page) is even counterproductive for the companies buying the ads, and they will at least change the ads' placement. Am I too naive? I would still prefer a free sponsored forum than a forum that costs me to join. Sure, that's what I said too. Who could argue with that? But by all means, express your opinion, Carlo. I don't love the ads either, but none of the moderators make any money for their work here, nor is there much compensation to the people who host the forums on their server. OK, I'll support the ads *if* the money from them are automatically routed into a salary for Dave & Co. That's why I support the idea of the ads, even if I don't like the ads themselves. Capisce? Perfettamente... But I *still* don't like it It think they cheapen the appearance of the threads and make them quite a bit more difficult to read. OK I know I'm sounding harsch... let's try a more 'civilized' approach: Dear MusicPlayer admins - I don't even look at the new ads, and when I do I just hate them. They're just an annoyance to me, and they work against the companies they try to promote. If you find a way to keep them without intruding so much in our discussions, I (and, I feel, the majority of people on this forum) will be very, very grateful. Jeebus, as I mentioned to zeronyne on page one of this thread, this type of solution, while resourceful, makes the page too wide for my monitor. Therefore, I politely request that you change your sig. Edit: It appears that you did so while I typed this post. Thanks! Peake
The ads have larger, bold text than anything else on the screen excepting the "MusicPlayer.com" logo bar. This leads the eye to the ads...and away from the forums. And now I see two "Add thousands of smileys" ads. Lose the ads. RobT
There ain't no such a thing as a free lunch ... eventually Even though this is a great place on the web for free. This is not the best time for the publishing industry. If it augments the forums being free I can live with it. I may not like it but I can live with it. Maybe we'd all feel a little better if the ads were placed in a different spot or if the moderators got a little stipend to defer the cost their ISP connection to be moderators in the first place. Jeebus
First PSW redesigns their site and turns it into a "big-advertising-dick-up-your-ass-fest," now this place is following suit. If the forum needs the ads to survive, fine. I just wish they could keep them at the top. Less of an annoyance that way. Does anyone actually even USE the ads anyway? Honestly, have any of you actually clicked thme? I have never once clicked a banner here, or at any other forum for that matter.

More so, my purchase of Sonar was a direct result of one of such the clicking's. Also I've checked out some plug-ins... and stuff. I guess I'm too curious. I am back. The ads fine with me as long as it helps defray the cost of the forum. But please, please, please don't try pop up ads next. As soon as they start, I'm gone. JimmieWannaB
Was thinking of ways to alter the ads via post content, although the SSS abortion thread only generated book links and a bobblehead link. Now that's funny. A thread on abortion rants brings up a Hillary Clinton bobble-head ad. Too bad the thread itself (pro and con) is inane. Now that I've spent a few days in Anderton's forum, I understand why Dave asks that we keep politics here to a minimum. There's some ugly shit going on over there. dementia13
Tell me, though. Are these Google ads dynamic and "intelligent"? They seem to track our threads. Well, if you want a good example, look at the "Rotary Encoder" thread and notice that all four ads on the side are for "encoders". No way that's a coincidence, and none of the four products appear to be music-related. That said, if it pays for the site, I've got no problem with it, as long as it doesn't pop-up or redirect (and Safari does a great job of blocking those). daBowsa
Does the forum seem more "compressed" lately? It looks like because "mcdonough@musicplayer.com" started a topic and "Michael Jackson's real nose" replied last to a topic, the "Topic" column gets squished. I vote for the "Topic Starter" and "Last Post" columns to be a fixed width so that the "Topic" column doesn't wrap to 3 and 4 lines. It looks like the other columns are "expand to fit," but the Topic wraps - I'd like it better if others were "fixed width" and the names got chopped (...), yielding maximum real estate to the Topic column.
