Shayne White Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I have started a petition to campaign for full ASIO support in Cakewalk's Sonar. They have mentioned ASIO support for Digidesign's hardware, but it is still unclear whether there will be ASIO support for all soundcards. If it is finally confirmed by Cakewalk, then the petition will not be sent to them; but in the meantime, please show your support by voting now! http://www.petitiononline.com/asiosn20/petition.html Thank you, Shayne White Discover Human Music by Shayne White at: http://www.shaynesworld.com
Anderton Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 ASIO is ASIO. I'm 99% sure Sonar's ASIO drives will work with any ASIO hardware. Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton
Shayne White Posted December 13, 2002 Author Posted December 13, 2002 And then again, perhaps not. It would be easy for Sonar to recognize only Digidesign's ASIO drivers if Cakewalk is still trying to push WDM KS. Shayne Discover Human Music by Shayne White at: http://www.shaynesworld.com
Jotown Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 Well maybe you should find that out first. :) Jotown:) "It's all good: Except when it's Great"

mjmclane Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 Is ASIO really the issue? I don't know that the soundcard guys have a lot of problems coming up with good WDM drivers, or that WDM is inferior to ASIO. Is the real question VST vs DXi?
Anderton Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 It's not that easy to come up with good WDM drivers, and it's a newer technology. A lot of sound cards already have mature ASIO technology. It's not VST vs. DX, as you can already use wrappers to run VST and VSTi devices with Sonar. I think that the Cakewalk people just want to make sure that people don't have a reason not to use Sonar . Anderton Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 Confirmation from Cakewalk: It's real ASIO, and it works with ASIO-compatible hardware, not just Digi's. BTW I know that ASIO is more of a hack than the facilities built into Windows or OS X. But I like the message it sends: Steinberg developed a cross-platform protocol and offered it to the industry. Their main competitor on the Windows platform, Cakewalk, has embraced it. Let Microsoft and Apple carry on their OS wars: the music industry has a better idea. Props to all concerned, including Digi for going ASIO too. This makes my day, frankly.
