This is as stupid as it gets. Craig as made it very clear on a number of occaisions that he is not the baby sitter here, he's a busy man and this is a very popular forum because of Craig's stance. This is a dynamic place and none of the posters here own SSS so if you don't like it, take a break from it or go elsewhere. Censor yourself, not this forum is what I'm saying.

Sorry for bringing this back to the top. But I just had to tell DavidR, what he should do is go back to pen and paper, stop using that infernal computer thing. It is a well known fact that computers have minds of their own and continued use will eventually completely distroy your free will much the same way TV has done to millions of people since it's invention. Your best bet it to READ BOOKS, NEWSPAPERS, and WRITE LETTERS. I'm sure that when the lawyers at your job see you doing all that reading and writing, they'll know you are far to intelligent, and way too busy to even be thinking about sex. Sly

Ya gotta stick up for yoursef, and don't let those lawyer bastards scare ya. That's how it goes in this business, I'll tell ya that. -------------- That's all I gotta say about that.

Best wishes Craig to you and your family. I hope all turns out ok. And, I said it before, and I'll say it again, you're doing a GREAT job as the moderator here. My advice is to ignore people bitching, because, there will ALWAYS be someone who is bitching about something, even if most people are content.
I really don't know what to put here.

I think it's pretty distasteful to post pics of porn and nudity on an audio related website, open mic or not. If it keeps up it will definately drive people away from this site... If you don't care, so be it... keep on wankin'

Well most companies have problems with surfing the web on company time, especially non-production related sites. Maybe somebody ought to include a disclaimer, much like the ever popular one on McDonalds coffee cups letting the fragile public know that coffee can be indeed HOT! :)

OK then. It seems like the majority of people and their alias's want this place to be somewhere to post pictures of breasts and where they can hide behind a woman's avatar. If I want to look at that I know of much better sites than this one. Craig, I hope your family medical problems resolve for the better. There is nothing more important than health. If you do start another forum, please let me know, or spend some time (when things get better for you) at Jules's place. The signal to noise there is still very good. I will lurk here off and on, but it is clear that my kind is not where this forum is headed. Thanks.

In the meantime I am going to build a cheap, audio friendly PC (thanks for good info Alndla :thu: ), and start messing around with XP. When the time is right to upgrade, I will either get a new Mac, or build a Monster PC and use the savings on the box to get new software. My best friend runs a Mac/DP based studio, and when I was a newbie at AE, I felt that having complete compatibility with him was more important than saving a few bucks. I still feel this was the best choice at the time, but now I need to evaluate what will be my best long term strategy.

With recent events I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It's obvious that some folks here are just too juvenile to have any sense of respect for UEM or the other folks here. Freedom is great... but your "rights" end where MY rights begin. I believe I do have a right to ASK that you stop posting porn. I don't want to see it... I don't want my family to see it when I'm home looking at these forums. I also refuse to turn off the pictures (inhibiting sharing of studio, gear, or band pictures) just because a few people want to act with no regard for anyone else's opinions on the matter.... You folks "say" you believe in free speech... that anyone should be able to say anything they want to say.... great... but when it comes time to LISTEN to the other side you don't give the opposing view point the same weight as your own... and you should. What's the point of "free" speech if it doesn't lead to a true DISCUSSION... a conversation where people don't just speak... they LISTEN. I used to suggest these forums to folks I met when they asked me where to get good info.... I can't in my own conscience suggest these forums so long as porn is supported.... and YES... by not only my OWN definition of PORN but by widely accepted definitions of PORN what we all saw in that thread was PORN. Meant to be seen as sexual in nature.. not only by virtue of the pictures themselves but by your own comments as well. Some of us run our own studios... as I believe David does.... I'm not concerned about lawsuits.... but I still don't want my family, friends, or co-workers seeing this sort of stuff.... and I AM checking these forums on MY TIME... suggesting folks like myself and David don't know the difference is inappropriate. This is not an issue of free speech, this is not an issue of lawsuits, this is an issue of: 1. a complete violation of the Musicplayer user agreement... if you don't know it... read it again 2. UEM's decision as to if they want the reputation for supporting porn and the following problems it might bring with advertisers given they are providing a FREE service ( I know "I" wouldn't pay to advertise or subscribe to a site or a magazine publisher that supported porn... ) 3. ... this is an issue of a small group of people who obviously value their right to "free" speech but who don't have any regard whatsoever for others around them, the current uncertainty of these forums existence, or UEM itself. Putting UEM and Craig in this position is the pinnacle of what it is to be tacky. Craig: I hope for the best for you and your family. I truly wish this issue didn't have to come up at all... let alone when you're feeling down. My suggestion: DON'T deal with this "issue" at all.... let UEM deal with it.... If they don't want to and decide to close down the forums... so be it. I'd rather have the good memories than to see this forum be drug through the mud. Valky

I agree with folks who say that posting nudity shouldn't be posted. But lets get real. You can't stop folks from posting pics, if there is a way for them to post them. The only solution would be eliminating the means to post said pics. If anybody has any knowledge of Craig, they know this ain't his main gig, for God's sake. So if somebody posts something offensive to you, you definitely have the option not to view it. I hate to be so matter of fact, stating the obvious, but you guys are getting upset about something you can't change. There will always be the folks wanting to post something they think is humerous, or to incite fierce oppositional dialog. Its the nature of the internet, as long as its still free. I recommend not participating in discussions or looking at stuff where an offending party is doing the nasty. I refuse to participate in the "men in dresses" crap on the guitar side, or anything I don't care for. Pretty simple for me.....hope things work out for you. Good luck.

Okay, here's the answer. First, do I have a problem with breasts? No. Do I have a problem posting pictures of them in a site for musicians? Yes, and it doesn't have to be for moral reasons. The practical ones are sufficient. If people want pictures of naked women or men, there are 43,000,000 sites on the web that will take care of your needs, and in a more thorough and professional way than MP.com. You will find no discussion of Sonar's layout on these sites. Please go to these sites if you want to see pictures of naked people. As I've mentioned I can't monitor everything here. If anyone sees something here that they think serves no useful purpose in furthering the aims of this forum, send me a PM (private message). I do check email everyday. But please, no "He said something nasty about George Bush." This forum will retain its reputation for allowing off topic discussions and tolerating a wide range of opinions. I think y'all know what's appropriate and what isn't.
Originally posted by Anderton: ...I think y'all know what's appropriate and what isn't.
A part of the problem, Craig, is that there are a rising number of forumites that are new to SSS and don't understand *your* vibe, and/or, have amassed 30, 500 or 1000 posts in 3 months - which leads them to believe that they are "sea worthy"...; and/or there are old sea dogs that have been around for ages with a bit of a juvenile streak buried deep down. Once a thread like this pops up, there is a tidal wave of voices saying "it's cool", "that's what "open mic is about" etc etc. I can just envision how fast word-of-mouth is spreading about your forum, on what a cool place it is, on how anything goes. Your forum is attracting a disproportionate % of knuckleheads. The other part of the problem is that you may not realise just how screwed up human nature is. I'm telling you man, (as I [and others] have mentioned before) you have got to get unpopular. ----------------- Hey there Jeff, Tascam guy... that's a fine looking weasel. Self portrait? :D

Okay, real quick thing here: What they mean by freedom of speech is that you have the freedom to criticize your government without the fear of being wacked. Apparently they came up with this cause they had a big problem with dead bodies all over the place.
Originally posted by David R.: OK then. Pornography entails explicit nudity, none of which was posted in the rack thread. Everyone went out of their way to only post covered breasts. Even if you didn't want to see this, plenty of simple solutions were given, such as turning images off. v
Originally posted by NYC Drew: Your forum is attracting a disproportionate % of knuckleheads.
Hmmm...you noticed it too NYC Drew...? Seems like lately we are getting these "complaint threads" more frequently...didn't we just have one a few weeks ago about all the bullshit OT chatter...? And it sure does have something to do with the "disproportionate % of knuckleheads"...the ever increasing juvenile bunch. You can spot them easily from their threads/posts. But...this isn't something for Craig to police...that's not his job. It's up to the forum members to just ignore/boycott the bullshit...but it appears that there are enough juveniles here that keep those threads alive...and then the rest of the members head south. It's funny how most of the other forums are almost free of this silliness...hardly ever see this shit on GM's forums...or Rogers...or David's... ...it's just here mostly. I don't know why just on this forum...did someone put out a sign? OK...this is SSS..."open mic" and all that...but many posts/threads have just become so silly and stupid. Kinda' reminds me of my teenage years...when me and my buddies were hangin' out on a boring Saturday night...and then we ended up doin' something totally stupid and silly. And, what made it even dumber...back then we thought we were being real cool. Looks like we got a lot of that going on here...bored juveniles doing stupid silly things...I often wonder how many of these people actually do anything with music/audio...? Kinda' reminds me of all the groupies and wannabes that use to hang out when my band was rehearsing...back in my teenage years. Looks like they all showed up here!
