Any Asheville, NC folks?

Hi. I've been contemplating a move to Asheville, NC recently and was wondering if any of you live in or near that area. What if any kind of music or studio scene is going on? I've been there to visit recently but only for a couple of days and was blown away by the scenery, I thought it was just gorgeous. Thanks for any help.

I haven't lived in Asheville but my brother went to college near there and I played in a band in North Carolina for a few years. From that perspective there isn't much going on in terms of a professional music business in Asheville. The triangle area (Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham) attracts most of the musicians in the state. The rest gravitate to Charlotte. Winston-Salem has Mitch Easter.

Asheville is certainly situated in one of the most beautiful parts of this country.

asheville does not have a very good music scene. lots of creative folks and artists are drawn to that area due to its natural beauty, but it is more of an art town than a music town. from what i've seen the music scene is pretty hippy and the cost of living is very very high. if you want to be close to the mountains, move to atlanta or charlotte, then you are a weekend trip away from the mountains....and a much more evolved music scene in both cities.

I'm vacationing in the area next week. It's a beautiful area, but aside from Asheville, there's maybe a couple of coffeehouses in Waynesville that might have live music sometimes , and possibly some work around the Harrah's in Cherokee. Little to nothing else. You might do better on the Tennessee side of the mountains, in Chattanooga or Knoxville. Chattanooga's also a good drive from but still striking distance to Atlanta. The northeast side of Atlanta gets you close to the mountains, but everybody I know who lives in Atlanta shakes their head and says "traffic" first thing. Charlotte's still some distance from the mountains, but Gastonia gets you a little closer while still convenient to Charlotte.

My mom lives in Franklin, and she's one of the artists the area attracts. There are plenty of places there where she gets to exhibit her work, but there's not a lot of live music, and what there is is mostly bluegrass. You can hear some great acoustic music there, but there's little demand for keyboards.

Franklin, NC. We have a family reunion there every October, and quite a few family members have wound up living there. I was looking at moving to the area a couple of years ago, but I wound up in Tennessee. There's not a whole lot going on here (Jackson), either, but at least it's not too far from Memphis. And not prohibitively far from Nashville.
