coyote
My band has wanted to add Tull's "Cross-Eyed Mary" to the set. We've been limited by the lack of a flutist, and by my inability to play the intro flute/piano/string bit. I was actually considering sequencing the solo flute portion of it.... Lo and behold - I switched that solo flute to my left hand, and use the right to do the piano & string chord bits. Where I was struggling madly doing the solo flute on the right hand, it just flows so easily in the left! Now I've "got it", and I just need to tighten it up. Thank God I'm too lazy to sequence, but not too lazy to practice and experiment I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Buddtopps89
Wow, that's strange, soloing better on your left hand than your right. Are you left handed? Glad you found a way to make it work. Keep the music flowing!
coyote
Yeah, I'm lefty. I'm under no illusions about my keyboard playing. I only really started a few years ago, I've not had formal lessons, and I'm not a stickler for practicing scales - so the likelihood of my ever developing phenomenal technique (esp. on the right hand) is pretty low. Nonetheless I've been able to learn a fair amount of Yes, ELP, Tull, Floyd, and other cool stuff - and it's in part because I won't take the easy sequencing route. My right hand used to get destroyed running the arpeggios in 'Roundabout'. It was soooo tempting to press a button and stand there... I didn't. And doing it every couple days for the past few months has made those arps strong and clear and durable. So now the same will happen with "Cross-Eyed Mary". And every time I'm tempted to let the machine do the work, I'll let that evil temptation pass, and get busy practicing. Maybe one day I'll even get good at this I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Odyssian
Cross-eyed Mary is a great song, glad to hear you got the intro down..and without sequencing! I've always wondered about that Roundabout arpeggio. I've never tried to play it, but it sounds like it's not a consistent/repeating arpeggio. It sounds like he changes it up ever-so often. He does play it really fast though. I'm sure it would make my CTS flare up if I ever tried to play it...
