David R
I just discovered this problem in my QS8. My technical terminology isn't great so I'll try and explain it in other terms. The two organ sounds I use most both use the 1'3/5" Drawbar waveform in the QS8. Recently, both organ patches had huge pitch on the A above middle C and the A the octave above. The only other time I've experienced this pitch warble is when I've added another voice to a preset program. The waveforms were already in the patch (Ballad B and an organ sound I programmed based off of Ballad B). I've had the board since 1998 and never had this specific problem. The only workaround I could figure out is eliminating the 1'3/5" waveform all together. Anybody know how to fix this problem? Does this make sense to anybody? If not I could explain it further if needed. Thanks all! David My Site Nord Electro 5D, Novation Launchkey 61, Logic Pro X, Mainstage 3, lots of plugins, fingers, pencil, paper. Ballad B must be in the user bank as I have my own sounds there - I could not find that patch. If you re-download it from a computer does it still happen? Of course, I expect you have already tried rexsetting the unit to no avail.
David R
Actually, I haven't reset the unit (although that should work... I can't remember how to do it though). Ballad B is in the user bank (User 023) and I don't understand why it would only be those two notes. Every other note on the keyboard in the range I play in is fine. All the other drawbar waveforms work fine as well. David My Site Nord Electro 5D, Novation Launchkey 61, Logic Pro X, Mainstage 3, lots of plugins, fingers, pencil, paper. David R
Clever weasel. It's working now. Thanks! I'm curious as to why that happened in the first place. David R
More QS8 troubles: After I save programmed splits in the Mix User bank, it promptly forgets all my effects settings. The voice/pitch/split point settings are all saved, but the delay time, slider assignments and pitch (as in chorus/flange) are all gone. Insights? Jeff Klopmeyer
Hmmmm. Does it "forget" after you've turned the power off, or before (like when you switch mixes or programs)? - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon

Insights? When you go to a Mix, only one programs effects setting can be used for all of the programs in the Mix. That can be changed on a per-Mix basis of course, but it is definitely a limitation of many of the older ROMplers, not just the QS stuff. Is that what you're referring to? If so, there are two solutions: One is obvious - choose carefully which program's effects are the ones that you want to keep and then tailor the other programs (via send levels) to taste. The other solution is based on the fact that almost every program in the WQS series uses either effects algorithm 4 (the one with EQ) or 5 (the one with the most effects in a single row, and distortion as an option). If you get good at programming the multi-buss algorithms, then you may be able to sort of set up the multiple effects configurations that you like. You'll be sacrificing the EQ and distortion modules to use the first three algorithms though...plus, QS synth effects programming is a bit of a bear to get a handle on because of the QS's small display (unless you use the editor software - that makes editing the effects a bit easier). One additional way of tackling the problem - depending on your multitracking solution, you can always just record the QS via audio one program at a time (ar, at least, the ones with the critical effects). Hope some of that is helpful - my QS speak is a bit rusty. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
David R
Jeff, as soon as I recall the mix, even if I've just stored it and re-activate it by pressing the bank/number buttons again where it's located, it forgets my settings. Dave, that's immensely helpful, but way over my head and the problem isn't that complicated. This is what I'm doing: Using the user Multitimbral patch (User 000) as a base, I'm creating a split with a Rhodes patch similar to Hard Roads (Pre2 005) up until middle C, 2 octaves displaced up, and Sweet Lead (Pre2 106) from Middle C upward. I have the effects algorithm set as 4 (the one with EQ) but instead of having slider D control reverb, I want it to control inverted flange. And I want my delay time to be 420ms instead of 130ms. As I'm editing, it works. But as soon as I hit "store", it reverts to the default settings of having chorus, reverb, and a short delay time. All my editing is being done by pressing the edit select button and using the effects menu that comes up normally. Make sense? I don't think that you can edit the effects of a preset sound without saving it as a user program, even if you do it from within a Mix. That's what it sounds like you're trying to do, and that's probably why it's not working. Try going over to program mode, edit the effects within the actual preset program being used by the Mix, save it as a User program, then go back and assign your new user version of the preset program in the Mix insead of the preset version. That should do it. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
David R
I am using this tweaked version of the Rhodes patch (the flange & delay are all preset in the Program) in my Mix, and it's still not working. It worked before too -- I've had this split for a while. It's only just recently that it's been screwing up! dementia13
You're using the effects from your Rhodes patch? Is it possible that something happened so the mix is no longer using the Rhodes patch effects, but using those of a different program, possibly a vacant one? David R
I think it may be using the effects from Sweet Lead (Pre2 106) but I don't know why. It never did that before, and I don't know how to fix it. It was doing this before I rebooted to fix the organ problem so it's not the reboot that caused it.
