using vst synths (arturia's moog modular) live.

first and foremost - i dont even play keyboards. my group is using the demo version of arturia's moog modular vst, and whether we buy it or not depends on its ease of use live. to get sounds from this program to come out of keyboard amps, will we run the synth into my computer through a midi cable, then out from my soundcard to the amp through a stereo cable? is this the only way? does it mean that if we want to use sounds from the moog modular program, we will have to lug a computer on stage?

while i'm at it - is micing the keyboard amps the sounds are coming out of the only way to capture the vst's sounds when recording (so far we've used a single studio condenser mic into a mackie SBD into an mbox into protools)?

i apologize for my cluelessless, but hopefully someone can help!

thanks!

Yes, that's exactly what it means. I'm not sure how you expected it to work otherwise.

I am assuming that what you meant is that you are running some sort of keyboard (to control the moog modular program) into the computer via MIDI, and then have the output of the soundcard go to your amplification, right?

The Moog V, or any other software synth, is just that: software. Unless you record what you play and just play that back on stage, you're going to need a computer. The computer IS the synth.

If the VST synth and Pro Tools are on two separate computers, you can go directly out of your soundcard (either digitally or plain old analog) into the mBox.

"For instance" is not proof.
