DanS
Hello all, I just picked up Absynth 2.0 (very cool), but it has the aforementioned PA type registering. My concern is being able to install the soft synth on both my laptop (for traveling) and my home studio DAW. I've sent emails to both the German & US NI infor depts, but so far, no reply. Anybody ever deal with this pain in the ass type of registering before? I have 30 days to "officially" register the product. Why couldn't they have just gone with the occasional demand to place the 'original disc' in the drive Tanks, DanS What we record in life, echoes in eternity. schmoron13
I know that Spectrasonics Trilogy offers you to use the software on any single machine at a time (hence you can have it on your laptop for travel, and your main system as well). Also, heard that sonic foundry has the same policy... I've heard horror stories about NI. Why does a company with such great products have such horrible support?! guess i just answered my question
DanS
Thanks Schmo, still haven't heard from NI on this issue. What we record in life, echoes in eternity. RABid
More and more companies are going to this and it drives me crazy. Offenders: Tascam - GigaStudio Native Instruments - new releases AAS - makers of Tasman and Lounge Lizard IK Multimedia Sample Tank and others Spectrasonics Atmosphere, Trilogy, etc. Sonic Foundry SoundForge, Acid Propellerheads Reason ImageLine Fruity Loops I use two PCs and a laptop. My laptop changes every two years. One of my PCs gets an overhaul every year. Then add crashes to that and I am doing an install every 6 months. Some companies seem to be easier to deal with than others, and most all understand the need for an install on both the laptop and PC. But, I have really been concentrating on products that use serial number or CD check. Still user friendly: rgc:Audio z3ta+, Pentagon I LinPlug Albino, RM4, Delta 4, etc reFx Several instruments Big Tick Rhino, Ticky Clav, Angelina VirSyn Tera, Cube Cakewalk Sonar 2, Project5 and instruments. I wonder if this is going to change with Sonar 3? And many more It seems there are two camps. I only hope that the customer friendly group wins out. Robert This post edited for speling. DanS
Just got this from NI: The authorization system allows an installation on two different computers. Therefore please execute the authorization on both computer, since the System ID will differ on the computers. On Mac it is even possible to install and authorize the software under both operating systems, MacOS 9 and MacOS X, on two different computers. Please use always the same username and password for your authorization since all authorizations belong to one registration account. After completing the authorizations, you get a different authorization key for each installation. What we record in life, echoes in eternity. RABid
With some companies, the first two authorizations are automatic over the web. After that you have to call or email for authorization. Other companies allow 3 to 5 authorizations before having to call. I know FruityLoops used to be set up so that it did not have a limit, but they would check the IP address of accounts with multiple installs and make sure that the serial number was not being passed around. Reverend Rhythm
I've had no problems with Sonic Foundry stuff. I guess I've authorized some of my software as many as 5 or 6 times. David
DanS
True. I've installed Acid 4 on my laptop twice, and my DAW once. Maybe the newer releases have the authorization. I bought mine back in Feb/03. What we record in life, echoes in eternity. RABid
So far I have had no trouble getting my online authorizations from SonicFoundry, but I was quite worried for a while when we thought they might go under. Someone told me the counter is set to 10 or so installs before you have to contact them. My biggest headach was AAS and Tassman, before they got rid of Pace. Some people have trouble with SampleTank, but the support person over on KvR seems to be good about helping people get their counter reset. Robert This post edited for speling.
