RABid
I have a piece of equipment that I move around a lot. It is my XL-7 and I use it as a basic sound source when writing. It gets moved around almost daily and I worry that connecting and removing the MIDI cable so often will wear out the connection and give me future problems. Do I need to worry about wear on the MIDI jack that could eventually result in a loose connection? Robert This post edited for speling. Markyboard
I've never had a problem with any midi connector in the 20 years that MIDI has been around and I have a lot of MIDI connectors. If you are concerned about this, you could plug a male/female adapter or "dongle" into your keyboard/device and leave it there permanently. Then just plug and unplug your MIDI cable into the other end of the adapter. But like I said I don't think you need to worry about this. And if it does ever wear out, they are pretty easy to replace. RABid
That is probably what I will do. I have never had problems before, but I never had a unit that I moved around this often. I would much prefer to replace a cable than replace the jack in a unit. Robert This post edited for speling. If you are really worried you should be able to find the rated plug/unplug life on the connector on a spec sheet somewhere (you should - I could not from google) I would expect it to at least be in the tens of thousands. Probably at least a couple of orders of magnitude higher. So I don't think you need worry about this.
Markyboard
I would expect it to at least be in the tens of thousands. Probably at least a couple of orders of magnitude higher. The second sentence probably overides the minimum specified in the first sentence. "At least" I think it does.
