Mats Olsson. Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Yamaha made a terrific magneto-optical 8trk recorder that was quite expensive, now they can be had for a song (almost). Probably a very good machine, way better than one could expect for the price. (If you go this route you will also need a mixer and some kind of mix-down thing (DAT, MasterLink, stand-alone CD-Recorder, Computer)) /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later!

If you don't have your own PA, all of the different types of cables you qould need to patch into a system would cost you that much.
strat0124 Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 If Guided by Voices and Sparklehorse are any indication, you can do really well with a Tascam 238. Records all eight tracks at once and has a great transport, logic controls....think of it as a poor mans DA88. You'll get lots of bang for buck and you'll never get electric guitars and drums to sound as good, unless you spend way more money. Good luck. Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in
dadgadget Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 I agree with the VS recorder. I've made lots of really great live 8 track recordings with it. My suggestion is to look for second hand units ten, considering your price range, as mentioned before, take the time to re-think what you want the end result to be. Yamaha's AW might be another good alternative. Again, even the proper cables and connectors will blow your budget if you're looking for a cheap way to a CD. When I first started out, I bought one mic cable, a boom stand and an XLR - 1/4" adapter each week, $100 CDN. Along with a few inexpensive good quality mic's, phantom supplies, a DI, pre's and within a year, I had all the gear I needed to run my VS full-on. You don't feel the 'pinch' as much when you spread it out over time !

The 1680, you will not find new, so I'm speculating 700-850 range. You want at least 1 expanion fx board to come with the unit. Want mix/tracking feedback?
