Second hand Mini-Moog

I found this guy selling his Mini. A friend of his bought a guitar from a friend of mine, and in the discussion he mentioned that a friend of his might be selling his old synt, and that´s where my ears started growing! It´s a black late 70´s Mini in good condition. No midi. I´m having trouble coming up with a bid price. I checked PrePal, but since Minis are in such varying conditions, It´s hard to tell where to land. I don´t want to pay a price that´s "bad" for any of us. Does anybody have any Idea what one may be worth? Dave??? ;)

As you said, Jonas - the value of Minis is all over the place, depending mostly on the condirtion of the unit, and how much it's worth to the owner. I've seen them for under a grand, and I've seen them for over 2k.

I would think that with the Voyager being out, it shoud sell on the lower end of the spectrum.

Make sure and play it before you buy it - try all the keys and make sure that they don't misfire (randomly glide up from the correct pitch). Also, if possible, check it for tuning stability. You'll need to let it warm up a bit to really check that.

Thanks, Dave! :thu:

Hopefully I´ll get a look at it in a week or two. I haven´t played one for two or three years now, so it´ll be interesting to see how it feels, I don´t know if I even have a reference sound and feel in my head anymore. I´ve been doing some session work lately including synth bass lines, and I´ve gotten by just fine with the stuff I have, but a Mini is a Mini... ouch, I can feel some really bad GAS coming on, gotta go read brochures!

Hey, mine used to do that too, every now and then. The pitch would glide fast and smoothly into the stratosphere. I liked it! Never heard anyone besides you describe this behavior.

Cleaning the key buss will usually take care of that.

True - unless the contact springs are stretched. Its pretty easy to unscrew and remove the bottom cover to clean the bus bars but be careful not to yank the springs. The other thing I would recommend is to replace the rubber bushing under the keys.

This was the best 50 bucks I ever put into my mini and makes the keybed feel like new as opposed to the clacking sound due to dried up cracked bushings(sound like a band name). The keybed must be removed to do this so if you're not into this kind of thing bring it to your favorite service center. Good luck. Just as a side comment: I'll never get rid of my mini - but I havent used it much now that have the Voyager. You have to be nuts to spend 2.5K -3K on one - but you'll never regret it.
