Botch.
Last night I sat down to program and learn The Cars' "You Might Think", one of my bands new covers. I think I set a new personal record, I'll be playing seven different patches, with four patch changes thoughout the song, even with three keyboards! There's a synth bass, synth lead tuned to fourths, the xylophone-like main hook, a slide whistle, a percussive string sound, 2nd guitar lick, vocal "ah" pad, and a "swirlie". There's no way I can get the "swirlie" in there, but otherwise everything's covered. So many songs are guitar-based and quite boring to play, its nice to get something like this once in awhile that has you hopping! Ouizel
I know what you mean. I'm learning "Gimme the beat" and I count 3 patch changes. A string pad, a jazz organ with leslie, and a grand piano. Should be fun, as I need to know it by Thursday afternoon! **Standard Disclaimer** Ya gotta watch da Ouizel, as he often posts complete and utter BS. In this case however, He just might be right. Eagles may soar, but Ouizels don't get sucked into jet engines.
RABid
heh heh. I remember playing that song when it first came out. I was using a MiniMoog, Arp Omni II, and a little mini-Casio that had 7 or 8 selectable sounds. If I did a patch change during a song it was on the Casio. The cool thing was that Greg Hawke used the same little $50 Casio that I owned, but then I think he also had a $100,000 Synclavier. At least I nailed the Casio sounds. felix.
I've always thought it would be fun to be in a band that concentrated on early 80's new wave. Back then, the technology was limited enough that everything was forced to be playable. If I ever actually get my band together, we'll definitely be doing some Cars tunes! I once did a show where I played Bari (sax) Flute Clarinet and Bass Clarinet with lots of fast changes. Its not just keyboard players that have to do lots of "patch" changes! I played the Bari on a stand and kept the bass Clart in my lap hooked to the strap at all times and picked the others up as needed.
Dan South
Fun stuff! Try "Drive" if you like lots of synth layers. The Black Knight always triumphs!

Know what you mean about multi-instruments, I play fiddle and harp along with keys, and soon hopefully sax too! How did you mic those different horns, their bells are all at different levels from the floor, aren't they?
