RudyS
i have i question for all the synth techs over here. Why don't all keyboards/synths have a audio in. It would be great if i could use the sound of say a S80 and route it thru the filters of say a K2600. I think that why we could explore very new sounds in the world oif synthesis. Mike Martin
You can. The K2500/K2600 series has something called Live Mode which allows you to do that. -Mike Martin Casio Mike Martin Photography Instagram Facebook The Big Picture Photography Forum on Music Player Network The opinions I post here are my own and do not represent the company I work for. Phait
couldn't you do that with a MIDI cable?
zeronyne
MIDI does not transmit audio of any kind. "For instance" is not proof.

The path in synths nowadays is all digital, so you'd need the ADC to get the audio into one of the 'processor' blocks. Frankly, I'm not even familiar with the internal workings of digital synths, just a guess. aeon
every one of my synths has an audio input or two, except for my purely sample-based ones...Roland JD-990, nope...E-mu XL-7/UltraProteus, nope. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
marino
The Wavestation A/D was an exception in the middle of the digital boom. It had two audio inputs, mainly for use with the vocoder - unfortunately, the vocoder itself wasn't really up to it.
RudyS
but the converters are probably expensive so the can't put audio ins on cheap ROMplers, right??? i think the idea off audio ins is very cool. To bad that not every synth has one. Rudy

I think it is simply a design decision because manufacturers do not see it as a desired capability in the market segment who buy sample-based synths. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
