choong
Hi, new to this forum, would appreciates to get all opinion and advice I can get. I would like to buy a Yamaha P-120s with a limited budget. Now I can't decide whether to buy P90s after having read good review from many of you. One thing I noticed in P90 spec, other than the supplied sustain pedal there is no AUX connection for an additional pedal for soft pedal, which I think it is neccesary for home use as a piano proper. I also fiddling with the idea of getting the clavinova CLP-130. My main criteria is the touch, expressive and good samples. My main question: 1) which is the best in term of touch, especially ppp and fff? 2) Is the sample are the same on these piano? 3) I noticed the CLP-130's amplification is much better than P120s. Of course of p90, I have to spend extra on amplifier and stand which will cost more than CLP130. 4) Is P90's Piano1 samples is much better than p120s and CLP-130 hope all of you can help me out! petros
P90's Grand Piano 1 is slightly cleaner than the P120's, even though the same samples are used in both . Somebody said the P90 GP1 sounds a little "less confused." I think that is a good way of putting it. You may notice and you may not notice because the difference is subtle. You need good speakers to be able to hear the difference. You don't get the same "Rhodes" EP2 on the P90, unfortunately, nor the very useful internal stereo speakers. The dynamic range and touch (ppp-fff) are very very good on the P120 and the P90. Again, maybe slightly better on the P90 because the GP1 sounds and responds a little cleaner or something. I played some stride piano left hand on the P90 while I spun bebop licks in the right and and it was more musical, more together sounding , less confused sounding on the P90. I was not sure why that was, but I noticed it. I used the same Yamaha stereo reference monitors at the same angle to A/B. I have not played the C series keyboard you mention. Dan O
If you look at the CLP130 , you may also want to look into the Roland MP500 . The MP500 will probably be a little less money and have 3 pedals. So how's the weather in Malaysia this time of year ? I'm not familiar with CLP-130. Regarding your 'touch' question, are you looking for a response that goes from ppp to fff? Are you looking for a feel, and a response that mimics the response of a grand piano? It's a difficult question to answer in words, I think you really need to experience it for yourself to make a judgment. Personally, I like the way the P120 and P90 both respond to velocity. Sample ROM is apparently the same on P90 and P120, but the programming is slightly different. Can't comment on CLP-130.
