Carl Fuehrer
I am running PT and feel a need to expand MIDI stuff for all my synths and soft synths I want to run. I am used to sequencing in my Kurzweil and have been working a bit in PT with MIDI. Since my studio will be doing allot of electronic music production I am considering a seperate computer with a sequencer and soft synths. I am currently looking at Logic and Cubase. I hear so much about VST plug-ins but I know nothing about how they work or why everything I want to buy seems to be in VST format. I would like to get your suggestions on which sequencer would be right my use and why. -- Peace Carl Fuehrer Engineer/Producer/Owner Station X Studio Audio Recording & Music Production http://www.stationxstudio.com
progfusion74
Are you on a Mac or PC? I am not PT savvy, so I am not sure if it is available for both platforms. I will assume mac. On the Mac if you choose Logic, VST is not available as a native format (you will have to use a wrapper). I like Cubase, but Logic is a fine piece of software too. prog http://www.indiegrooves.com/dnm/images/dnm_small.gif My Blog
Carl Fuehrer
PT is PC and Mac. I have been looking at a Mac for the sequencing machine since more stuff is availible for it. -- Peace Carl Fuehrer Engineer/Producer/Owner Station X Studio Audio Recording & Music Production http://www.stationxstudio.com

I thought it is like this: PT - PC & Mac Logic - Mac (only older versions for PC) Cubase - PC & Mac Sonar - PC Ableton Live - PC & Mac DP4 - Mac The important questions are: do you have a lot of legal software already for one of the platforms, which sequence program is a must, which OS do you like best? http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life. Dan South
VST is a standard. OSX has new standards, but most plugins are being rewritten to conform to the new standard. Many are ready now. That shouldn't be an issue. I *believe* that you can download an evaluation copy of most sequencers. That's the place to start. Download one. Play with it. Post here if you have questions. You need to take them for a test drive. The Black Knight always triumphs!
Carl Fuehrer
legal software already for one of the platformsI would be starting fresh with no software or plug-ins for this machine. I am interested in using Native Instruments FM7, Pro53, and Vokator, Reason, Spectrasonics Trilogy and Atmosphere, and possiblly MOTU Mach5 so far. -- Peace Carl Fuehrer Engineer/Producer/Owner Station X Studio Audio Recording & Music Production http://www.stationxstudio.com
Carl Fuehrer
download an evaluation copy of most sequencers. That's the place to start. That's one of the things. I don't really know what I should be looking for. I am so used to basic sequencing in the keyboard and some stuff in PT. How would I lock it up with PT on a seperate computer? Stuff like that. -- Peace Carl Fuehrer Engineer/Producer/Owner Station X Studio Audio Recording & Music Production http://www.stationxstudio.com
dementia13
I haven't used PT, but I know that Logic integrates well with it. I learned sequencing on Logic's predecessor, and I've never felt comfortable with anything different. I don't think it's just comfortability with what I've used- I think Logic is exceptionally well-designed in its user interface. Because it has so many features, it can take a little time to become comfortable with working in it; but once you become comfortable, it's much more natural and convenient than some of the alternatives.
