jrosevear
I'm a guitarist (don't shoot!) looking for a decent-sounding yet affordable module to use with Band-in-a-Box. My question boils down to "Is there anything out there -- new or used -- that's better than an Edirol SD-20 for similar money", where "better" equals "renders sax/trumpet/other jazz instruments more faithfully". I don't care about creating my own patches, I'm a guitar player. I'm just looking to make the BIAB output sound as authentic as I can within a fairly conservative budget. The SD-20 is the default choice, but I don't want to buy it without at least considering other options. Thanks!
daBowsa
Alesis QSR does all that, but the saxes are a little weak. Great bread-n-butter box for cheap (check ebay ~$200).
iMember
Roland xv-5050 has great General Midi 1+2 sounds and setup. Pricey if you you just are going to use it for band-in-a-box though Think before you think before you speak
Dave Bryce
If you really wanna get away inexpensively, see if you can find an older Roland Sound Canvas. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
Laurie Z.
An additional suggestion: Try finding units with the Yamaha XG sound set - they're some of the better GM-type units out there. Saxes are always the toughest, though... lz www.lauriez.com
Laurie Z.
I guess you could say, "Good sax is hard to find!" Sorry... lz www.lauriez.com
jrosevear
Actually, Laurie, after reading your recommendation I grabbed the demo version of Yamaha's S-YXG50 software synth, and I'm quite impressed. I think I'm going to play with this awhile before I spend money on hardware. Thanks!
