felix.
Don't laugh, it's true! First of all, I admit I'm a Human League fan. And you see, I never got over the fact that they cancelled their Austin show back in 1984 and I've never had a chance to see them since. So I finally got to see them. Went to the show with little or no expectations, and had a blast. They did a bunch of early stuff (Dare) and a bunch of singles - kind of a best-of show. Two backup keyboardists (each with a Roland JD900 and an AX7) playing live, a percussionist playing live on Roland V-Pads and percussion pads, and Philip and the girls on vocals. One of the keyboardists also occasionally played electric guitar, courtesy of the oh-so-cool Roland G-707. Far from polished, the show was a good example of just how far a catchy tune can go. Great synth pop - I'm really glad I went.

Also, Human League never broke up, they just haven't ever enjoyed the popularity they had in the early '80's. Their last full-length release (maybe 2 years ago) was as catchy as ever. As for Tubeway Army, I agree that Mr. Numan is too focused on his current material (which gets great reviews) to consider that. As for me, I like his early synth-based stuff better. DJDM
Congrats Felix! I can only imagine that it was a good show. He played mostly rhythm guitar and had a crack band with him. They sort of punked up "Cars" and it really worked. His newer material is very goth but in a good way. - DJDM DJDM.com
felix.
Thomas Dolby is another one that I regret never having seen live. Wonder if we'll ever be lucky enough to see him play in the U.S. again.
billjv
Ya know, some smart promoter should put together the 80's MTV tour, or something like that. All those 30 - 40something Moms would come and bring their kids, ya know? Heck, I'd go, too, just to hear the DX7-soundalike count! bv "If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe." -Carl Sagan

felix.
I saw Howard Jones a few times back in the 80's. Always a good show. I know he toured not too long ago with nothing but acoustic piano and a percussionist. Don't know if he has any touring plans for the near future. How about an 80's festival with: Howard Jones Thomas Dolby Thompson Twins Human League Missing Persons Berlin Duran Duran ...I could go on and on! Mark Zeger
I saw Howard Jones when he toured in support of "Cross That Line". I still really love "The Prisoner" from that album. It's refreshing to hear how well his songs hold up without the synths on the "Live Acoustic America" album. dementia13
The only synth pop band I ever got to see was Talk Talk opening for Elvis Costello. I'd never heard of them, but I was pretty impressed. I'd like to hear some of that new Gary Numan music. I liked his early albums, but it was the kind of music that, once you got tired of it, you really got tired of it. This is supposed to be a keyboard forum! How could you leave these off your '80s festival? Ultravox Split Enz Simple Minds Boomtown Rats Squeeze Might as well bring the Specials or Selecter for some ska flavor, and Angel City for the guitarheads. And Ian Dury for comic relief.
