michael saulnier
Just a "heads-up"... I know some have complained about the standard piano sounds in a number of the Triton models and the Karma. I noticed this weekend that Guitar Center is "blowing out" the EXB-PCM08 - Concert Grand Piano Expansion Board, (the same sounds are already in the Triton Studio), for $75. ($99 less a $25 instant rebate.) In fact the rebate applied to all the boards they had in stock. I decided to fill the piano gap in my keyboard with this board and it has added some better piano programs and combi's compared to the straight factory sounds. Thought some would want to know this, and perhaps grab one themselves... guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! jimmymio
Thanks for the tip. I had heard that the sounds on this board still weren't that great but at this price, I'll try and grab one. clusterchord
much better than internal piano. but still sounds harsh in the c4-c5 region w couple of really plastic sounding samples there(remember old EIIIX lib pianos..)but having extra piano like that on board triton, especially live, for $75 is great. http://www.babic.com - music for film/theatre, audio-post

jimmymio
I understand Opp's point that the 01 board offers many different sounds and that on the 08 board you only get pianos but does anyone know how the piano sounds on the 01 board compare to those on the 08. Also just what sounds are on the 08? Accoustic piano only? opp
There are a few piano samples on exb 01 from past korgs sg,trinity and another stereo sample. These to my ears are similar in quality to the triton piano, each with it's own character.Exb 08 comes with 2 stereo samples mf & ff which is used as a double strike program. The 08 piano is the most realistic but only seems to sound good on headphones?Exb 01 pianos were more useful in a real world setting. The electric pianos and organs on exb 01 are really quite good.Hope that is helpful. clusterchord
i own both. i agree about real world situation for 01 , but in a dense arrangement, where you wont notice the too few and too short multisamples those sounds have. 08 worked fine in a more classical or ambient setting. thnx http://www.babic.com - music for film/theatre, audio-post
RABid
I don't like the pianos in the 01 and only keep it installed for the other sounds. For quite a while Korg has been giving away the 08 with any new Triton purchase. I got my 01 free with my Karma purchase. Robert This post edited for speling. Rick K.
Well guitplayer, I got mine last night on the way to practice. Thanks for the great advice. The guys at GC didn't know anything about the special instant rebate. The look on their face when they discovered the instant rebate was pretty scary. For the life of me, I'll never understand why sales they don't equip their sales people with given tools to help them sell. Rick
michael saulnier
I'm glad they "found" the rebate info for you! I guess I'm lucky that the GC by me is pretty well managed, and they seem to be on top of the sale promotions. I've been having fun with the new piano sounds... they're certainly a step up from the factory ones in my Karma. I've been having fun creating some of my own combi's and splits... Whoo, hoo! I've been thinking about splurging on the "vintage keys" expansion board, but I'm not sure the sounds are really going to be ones I can't get myself with a little programming. Has anyone used this expansion board and have comments? guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! zeronyne
Well, the GC nearby knew nothing of the rebate, but the guy just sold it to me for $70.00 + tax, so I'm not complaining. My Triton Pro X came with 01 and 02 installed, so it's a dilemma...which one goes on eBay? "For instance" is not proof.
jimmymio
You all have better luck than me. Today I stopped in my local GC-San Francisco ready to drop the cash and they insisted that the price was $189 for the Trition expansion boards. Well I wasn't ready to drop that much cash. Bummer.
