Superbobus
This got me thinking when I was reading the Timberlake thread. There was a link to some trendssuck-site. Here are some that got me irritated. That #%$&*&*% autotune, used on Cher's Love After Love and then used on about every hit single. The iTrend. The original iMac was a hit, but as usual with Apple everybody started copying. First the fruit colors, then every word with an i in front. Apple itself does it too. Classical music ringtones. All of those cell phones with Bach and Mozart themes... ugh! http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.
Addix Metzatricity
There's one current trend that's really starting to get me riled up. It's DJs... yes, Disc Jockeys. I've been pretty upset with the caliber of DJs that have been spawned by Clear Channel and Infinity Broadcasting. As if every man has to objectify women, spout homophobic slurs, and follow sports religiously in order to be masculine. RobertWhich one would that be?For series, the first Survivor and Great Race shows were filled with people that could live next door. Now they worry too much about the "look", which means I don't look. As for closed studios I'm talking about programs like Reason and Project5. If you create a song in Reason it is a major headach to get it converted to a decently usable MIDI file. For project 5 you need the plug from rgc:Audio that acts like a VSTi but will export the MIDI channel. Even FruityLoops can be a headach if you want to convert the song to MIDI and expand it in Sonar, Cubase, or any other sequencer. Robert This post edited for speling. Isn't it all pretty much standard? I'm an avid Reason user, though I don't have much use for exporting as MIDI. sbrock1san.rr.com
Almost every keyboard/module/groove box/whatever I have auditioned lately uses an external power supply. I already own too many of those things and I don't like the idea of finding replacements someday if they fail or get lost.

rylos
Houses that are built with the garage stuck out in the front. drive through some of those newly-built neighborhoods and it seems that people don't live here, cars live here. Some even have the front of the house almost totally obscured by the garage, you have to go sideways into a little cubbyhole to go in the front door. It's not a matter of lot space, these houses crop up on huge lots that way. Maybe a lot of people started to judge the "newness" of the house by how far out the garage stuck, then things just got out of hand. "shit" happens. Success Takes Focus. Tom Fiala
Oh man...I'm gonna start sounding like Andy Rooney! "You know what really bugs me...." - wall warts (external power supplies). - incomprehensible manuals, translated from the japanese by computer. - guitar jockeys at the music store who are unable to stop working on their latest solo to help me actually buy something - bar patrons who keep on shouting out for the same obscure piece, once you've already told 'em that your band don't know it. - cell phones ringing in locations where they should be turned off or silent...like the middle of my solo! and of course, "flood protection" here at the forum! Should I stop...? This is fun! Tom F. "It is what it is."
Dave Horne
There's a trend in women's fashion here in the Netherlands ... low cut jeans. If you're 18 and have no extra fat, they look great. The problem is, the fatties are forced to buy those low cuts as well. This is unrelated, but here are some photos. billjv
Okay, I'll bite. One trend that has really irked me lately is a subject that, if taken the wrong way, makes me sound unpatriotic. Just for the record, nothing could be further from the truth. I love this country, I was born here. Okay. On to the issue: Flags, flags, flags. Everywhere. Like some cheap marketing campaign. Flags on bumpers, flags on sticks, flags on windows, flags on underwear, flags on every news show, flags on shoes, flags, flags, flags, flags, FLAGS. I love our flag, but somehow all this flag paraphanilia seems a tad contrived and trivialized, kinda like McFlag. No matter what side of the political spectrum you're on, I think most everyone would agree that it does get at least a bit overdone, especially lately. The flag is a symbol of pride, and for me that also means being respectful of how and where it is displayed. It looses that visual impact when it's mass-marketed in every grocery store isle, right beside the National Enquiror. Okay... glad I got that off my chest. bv "If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe." -Carl Sagan

Odyssian
Another thing that bothers me is how just about every television show and commercial has to include these special effects where the camera moves around in an extreme fashion. Depending on the scene, the camera will either just shake around (and no, I'm not talking Star Trek ), or will pan from actor to actor or image to image. There are also times when images will rapidly "skate" on to the screen (most often in commercials). It really bothers me because just about every show has this, and it literally makes me ill (dizzy and naucious sp?). PBS is usually okay, but they are even starting to have shows like this now too. I think it's like the Cher autotune vocal thing. A new effect is suddenly possible, so everyone tends to overuse it.

Darcity
The only trends that I can't stand are the "ballin'" trends. When the latest, greatest ________ comes out, my checking account ALWAYS determines if I am going to be apart of it or not. Yamaha MODX8, Korg Kronos 2 61, Hammond B3, Novation 61SL MKII, Impulse 61, Roland D-550, Proteus 2000, etc......to name a few.
rylos
Another thing that bothers me is how just about every television show and commercial has to include these special effects where the camera moves around in an extreme fashion. How about when networks put promo blurbs at the bottom of the screen that distract you when you're trying to watch a show? I used to watch discovery channel a bit, but when you are trying to watch a show and suddenly the image scrunches up, mouse-click-type sounds come on, and animated promo video stuff comes in at the bottom, it's easy to say to hell with it, and flip channels. After a while I got out of the habit of watching that channel, discovered other channels instead. People that graduate high school, work in a retail store, but still have no clue about what a decimal point means. When I see an item priced at .89 cents, I expect to get it for point eighty-nine cents, which is a bit less than a penny. Most retail clerks are totally clueless about understanding the decimal point concept. They'd perk up quick if someone misused a decimal point on their paycheck, like paying them point 200 dollars (which would be 20 cents). The meaning of math symbology does not change just because it's commonly misused. How about people that use written language as a major part of their job, but are too ignorant to realize that adding an apostrophe can turn a plural into a possesive? Such as the phrase "video's for rent", which means that the videos posses something, instead of "videos for rent", which means that you can rent videos. Even saw a big sign on a store here that proudly proclaimed " OPEN SUNDAY'S ". Labelling the plural of video, MP3, synthesizer, etc. as "video's, MP3's, synthesizer's" just makes it more confusing for those that aren't as ignorant. It seems that the trend now is to no longer strive for personal improvement in order to gain advantage in life, but to slack off and demand advantages to be given to us. Why bother trying to learn anything in school, when we can sue the state to have the testing standards lowered? Can't get a job because you are either too illiterate to fill out the application form? Sue for a "fair chance". Can't keep a job because you are too lazy to work? Sue the bastards, claiming some kind of unfair discrimination. Or how about stores that sell crappier goods every year, meanwhile advertising that their products are better quality than ever? My kids bike from wal-mart is literally falling apart, a brake cable snapped, the rims are warping, it started rusting right away, and the tires won't hold air. And it's only three months old, and not abused. Meanwhile the bikes we got several years ago are still holding up, and are still in better condition than the new one. And of course I gave up buying electronic items at Radio Shack years ago. Or, worst of all, those who post long raving bitching rants on the internet? "shit" happens. Success Takes Focus.
