Geoff Grace
So the forums have been moved back to MusicPlayer.com! Does this mean that all of our links to Music Gear Network hosted theads are now broken and all of our old links to Music Player hosted threads have been restored? Clicking the links above... Testing, one, two, three... ... I guess that's what it means! So, what's the 411 on the return home? RABid
You know, I never thought about the broken pointers to threads. I'm lucky to remember my password now that I have to enter it again. The stupid flood protection keeps you from making more than one guess every 30 seconds. Robert This post edited for speling. Jim Quinn
You really don't want the details, trust me. Long story short, we moved the forums from Unix to Windows. Please be patient while we tweak the new configuration. And as always, enjoy this free forum!

JimmieWannaB
We do enjoy and appreciate the forum. Enjoy? Hell, for some of us it's an obsession. Like caffeine, can't start my day without it. Suggestion: dump the "Flood" feature. It's making posting a major pain.
coyote
I'm glad about the change. Not from a functional standpoint - whether it's running on Unix or Windows or Linux doesn't matter to me. But the MusicPLAYER Network name puts the emphasis where it oughta be, on the Player. The gear, important though it may be, ought always be secondary to the person playing it. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. daBowsa
I'm hoping the decision to move to Windows was not based on the bullshit SCO-IBM lawsuit... If anything, I'd hope people would wait for a court ruling to start bowing to the threats of corporate companies trying to exploit a free and open society produce quality products such as Linux does. And yes, the flood "protection" does indeed suck.

Gus Lozada
As all of us have found this morning, we moved back from the "Music Gear Network" servers to our old and beloved "MusicPlayer.com" site. As our esteemed Geoff Grace pointed, this means all our URLs to previous threads created into the Music Gear Network servers will not work properly. What can we do? 1) Locate your mouse pointer over the non-working URL 2) Right click and select "Copy direct access" (or whatever similar options exist in your browser) 3) Open a new web browser window 4) Paste non-working URL 5) Replace the word "musicgearnetwork" with "musicplayer" in the URL 6) Voilá ! It works. guestuserguestuser.com
I don't know whether anyone else is seeing the same thing, but I'm seeing a huge improvement in response time since you moved to this new server. Nice But what is "flood protection" and why is it obstructing me from posting? Not nice

And as always, enjoy this free forum! We do enjoy and appreciate the forum. Yes, what Robert said! Jim, please don't view my post at the top of this page as a complaint. I truly do love it here; and as a member of 2 1/2 years (beginning under the displayed name soapbox in January, 2001), I'm just as happy to have the old broken links restored as I am unhappy to have the newer ones broken. While it feels good to be back "home" at MusicPlayer.com, I am somewhat curious and concerned about the people who were nice enough to host this place for the last year or so. How are things at Music Gear Network? As always, thanks for maintaining a stable home for us wayward musicians! Not nice I noticed that the "flood protection" seems a bit more sensitive than before. Can we shorten it from 30 seconds to say, ...5 seconds? Someone's gonna have to get that fixed by the time basketball season gets into full swing. Speak of the devil, it's doing it to me now. What gives??? Jim Quinn
I wish I had the time right now to answer all questions posted. I rarely check on threads or monitor the forum. I'll try to address a few in short. In the future, please contact Dendy with any questions or problems. If he doesn't have an answer, he will request one from me. The migration from MusicPlayer.com to Musicgearnetwork.com was necessary to keep the forums up in the short term. It has always been our intention to migrate back to MusicPlayer.com once we moved MusicPlayer to a new server. MusicPlayer moved to a new server months ago. Since the site is mostly static, you didn't notice. The forums are dynamic and inherently produce more noticeable side affects. Due to time constraints, we did the best we could to make the transfer as seamless as possible. I'm pleased to read comments about performance improvements. Once the dust settles, we plan to make enhancements that should improve performance significantly. As for the "flood control" parameters, I changed it from 30 seconds to 10. This feature is designed to prevent users from using programmatic technics to fill the board. Not sure why this wasn't a problem on the Unix server, I suspect it has to do with the forum code and it's behavior on different platforms. The choice of operating systems has nothing to do with future expectations of viability. I have been a Unix guy since 1983 and have no reservations about using Linux in the future. I'm not sure what you mean by "PM" problems, please report it to Dendy using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. Sorry for the brief answers, have much work to do. daBowsa
Glad to hear the change had nothing to do with OS politics. One performance improvement I'm noticing is that the folder icons are correctly white and yellow based on whether a thread has been updated since I last visited. That never seemed to work for me before...I love it!
Jim Quinn
Good news!!! The PHP accelerator is installed and functioning correctly. You should observe a noticeable improvement in performance.

But the overall response time seems to be faster indeed. I am back.

Most web servers I've been dealing with lately have been moving the other way. In fact I just moved my own web site from Windows to Linux. Last night I got one of the dreaded "Page Not Found" errors. That was the biggest problem I had on my previous (Windoze) server... constant DNS errors. Hope this place doesn't start getting those. But anyway... I AM glad it's back on musicplayer, and as a programmer I DO appreciate what it takes to keep a place like this running with such high demand. Thanks mucho for all you guys do here. felix.
Great to hear that Dave's PM box is working. Sure came in handy just now as I tried to find out who to contact about my no-longer-working "Felix" login! Help!
synthetic.
What a steaming pile the new server is. It's taken me a week to even register a new name without the "Flood protection" kicking in! Think ya might have set it a little on a sensative side?! Were hackers really that big a nusance at the old setting? The board is unusable with this crap on. Sorry, that's been building up for a week. Nice to see that I'm not the only one locked out of my account. Well, not nice, but reassuring. I hope it all gets settled soon. I'll never reach 5000 posts if I have to start from scratch.
