midispaceho Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 I read Michael Drosnin's book "The Bible Code" a few years back. It was very interesting, bordering on mathamatical proof of God. Well, there is a new book out "Bible Code II" and apparently 9-11 was predicted and we may all in fact be toast by 2006. There is a review of the new book here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0670032107/ref=pm_dp_ln_b_6/102-3726188-4164101?v=glance&s=books&vi=reviews Just wondering if anyone else has checked these books out and what you think. Tusker Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 I read the information at Amazon. It sounds like the excerpt from a Robert Ludlum novel. BTW, did the author claim to have talked to Clinton about this, or is his protaganist the one who talked to Clinton? Is this supposed to be fiction or non-fiction? Cheers, Jerry
midispaceho Posted December 5, 2002 Author Posted December 5, 2002 Non fiction. Heeeeeere kitty kitty kitty
Ethan Winer Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 midispaceho, > It was very interesting, bordering on mathamatical proof of God. < Hardly. Below are some articles that debunk the claims made in that book. --Ethan http://skepdic.com/bibcode.html http://www.nonfictionreviews.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl?mode=1&article=article1033.art&page=1 http://www.e-skeptic.de/160999.HTM http://www.valleyskeptic.com/biblec.htm The acoustic treatment experts Ethan's Audio Expert Book
AlanThomas Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 Non-fiction my ass... Even the Amazon web page for the book calls it "the thrilling sequel". My local book store has this book in the Science Fiction section. Signatures can appear at the bottom of your posts. G. Ratte Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 I haven't read the first book by Drosnin all the fuss was about, but I did read this: Cracking the Bible Code by Satinover. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/068815994X/qid=1039136702/sr=1-9/ref=sr_1_9/102-0698852-9319343?v=glance&s=books The Skeptic Mag guys will always trash anything they can't touch in the physical world. What's interesting about the _Cracking..._ book is that it's not some "Christians are right, looky here!" thing...it's mostly tons of background on these old rabbi Torah scholars, who are no joke. Kabbalah stuff, and all that. So the most valuable thing about that book is that it's sort of a _Jewish Mysticism For Dummies_ intro. Which leads into all sorts of fascinating things. G. Tedster Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 2006, huh? Reminds me of that scene in "Ghostbusters II" where Venkman is interviewing that guy who wrote that book on the end of the world, which was supposed to happen like even before the book came out... :D "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
D. Gauss Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 hmmmmm....did it predict all those boys getting fucked by priests in exchange for drugs in boston? -d. gauss
deanmass Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 I have a book called The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet that is pretty interesting. There is afreaky movie called Pi:Faith n Chaos that is very good...Indie film...but I do not take them TOO seriously..
midispaceho Posted December 6, 2002 Author Posted December 6, 2002 I take it all with a grain of salt. I have read some of the counter arguments, but I must admit, the statistics in favor of this phenom are quite strong. Heeeeeere kitty kitty kitty
whitefang Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 I'll have to give it a look-see. Of course, in the '60's, I've read books that deciphered "proof" in the Bible that the end was coming in the '70's. In the '70's, the end was gonna be the '80's... ...and so now on it goes... Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
midispaceho Posted December 6, 2002 Author Posted December 6, 2002 It has been hard for me to accept this thing as true and I cannot say that I have at this point. I am not christian or jewish. I have had 8 years of higher education in the hard sciences. I view everything critically. While I am not a statician, the statistics put together by the respected original mathmatician seem to be strong. People lie. Statistics generally do not. But I find it all very interesting. Uh Clem Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 statistics are the invention of people - you can prove anything with statistics - or so says a recent survey :D Steve Powell - Bull Moon Digital www.bullmoondigital.com
