Yahoo
REAlly. one day I'm completely convinced that I'm going to sell my Roland JP-8000, and, another , I'm completely convinced that I want to just keep it. If it weren't for a specific keyboardist using the JP way before me , I would definitely keep it, but , for me, playing this board that someone else " has their name all over" , makes everything seem unoriginal and just not what I expected. ..... I'm so stuck in the middle of a decision. ...I feel like I might break up with a long time girlfiend or something( i've had the board about a year now) SO, basically, the reason i want to sell it is because the keyist that uses it uses ONLY presets , and whiel i can make my own patches, The fact that I'm ALWAYS frikkin remindeed of this guy when i turn the power switch on ruines my vision and ideas.... Does anyone have and really great advice for me? Like i said, I'm like 50/50 love and hate this board . I mean it's not like a guitar , where everyone sounds the same. The things i liek about the JP that are one of a kind are teh ribbon controller, the joystick and lfo accasebility, and the feedback osculator. petros
I can't decide either if I should sell or keep my Korg Wavestation SR, Mackie LM3204 and my Roland MKS 20.

Entropiastrife
if you have doubts keep it. it is kind of word that you want to sell it because it reminds you of someone though http://www.myspace.com/jaredsloan
Jeff Irok
Don't sell it. Just put it aside for the moment, then go back to it at one point with a specific intention, like because there's this one part you know that the JP can handle better than anything else. This will help you break your mind-set associating it with this other dude because you would have found another use. Check out my band's site at: The Key Components! Keep it, tweak the shit out of it and show that keyboardist what you can do with that board. http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life. yannis dimitriadis
Dear Galiwaves I often have the same problem, and put myself the same questions. I once decided to sell my Hammond L-100-P and my Fender Rhodes, but I imediatelly stepped back. I still got them, but every two-three months i got the same dilemma. But i will surelly keep them hahaha - and if you want my advice, keep them too. Every piece of instrument tells a story about the musician who uses it, his little or big personal story. So , just don't chop yours. Regards Yannis (sorry for my english) yannidim

Yahoo
I go to school now, so i don't have time to work enough to buy gear, and i want to get a new guitar! If i had lotsa money, i'd just put JP in a case. I actually think i'm selling it. The clicking envelope sucks too.
Yahoo
oh , yeah , one more thing I forgot to add, which i had previously composed .but deleted before posting , because it turned into rambling, is that I seriously think that synth companies should make more analog modeling boards than they do! for example: only Roland's JP,, KOrg MS2000, Novation K. of course the micro korg, the new Novation K are differnt synths, but the're the same engines. If roland made another damn synth, I'd probobly be dilemmaless.
RABid
I would love to have the V-Synth, Rolands new synth, but don't want to spend that much money. My first analog modeling hardware synth was a Nord Modular Rack. So far it has kept my interrest and helped me to avoid any other VA over $200. As for the Roland JP, it sounds like you are trying to come up with lots of reasons to sell. If you hate the synth, get rid of it. But, it is still a good synth. With all those sliders it is also a good programming controller for software VA's. Robert This post edited for speling. Dasher
WEhy are you determining how YOU makde music based on what somone ELSE has done? Your music is YOU (at least it should be,) If you can't play something because it reminds you of someone else, STOP LISTENING TO THAT GUY! Find you own sound, your own style, and don't worry about the other guy. Steal if you wish, that's legit, but otherwise make YOUR music. I used to give away my DX7 programs to several local keyboardists, every one of whom came back to ask, "Are you sure these are the same patches? They don't sound the same when I play them." And I would answer, "Of course not - you don't play like me. Not better or worse, just DIFFERENT!" Dasher It's all about the music. Really. I just keep telling myself that... Dan O
There is probably a way of initializing the JP8000, setting back to original settings . Dano www.esnips.com/web/SongsfromDanO
eric
I've bought and sold more gear than I care to discuss and constantly realize I'm not really solving any problems by continuously flipping gear. The real solution is to take what you have and make it your own, maximizing every parameter available. Forget about the latest and greatest...get the most out of what you have and save the money for other things! I've been trying to remain faithful to a core rig and it makes me satisfied when I can walk out of Sam Ash empty-handed, although tempted by the latest and greatest sleek Fantomotriton wonder machine. Even if a keyboard can boost your talent immediately by providing instant gratification, is that why you got into music in the first place? Tusker
Get rid of that JP8000. She's obviously a source of frustation to you. Take her off the stand and go place her in the closet. Shut the door on her. Don't play her for awhile. She's gone remember. Finit. If and when you discover her again, she won't be the same. She'll have sprouted all these cool features she never had. And unlike a woman she'll forgive you for abusing her. Best, Jerry
