Viscount OB5 Digital Drawbar Organ

Anyone heard/played this organ? It is a dual-manual organ clone similar to the Korg BX3. It appears to have waterfall keys and optional pedals. I stumbled upon doing a search for midi drawbars for my Voce V5.

I read reviews and it seems to be a good value (around $2000).

If anyone does know about it, could it be used to control both drawbars and pedals for my Voce V5 module?

Our venerable moderator has one, but he's at NAMM for the next few days. He'll probably reply when he gets back, but I remember him saying he loves his.

In my gear room, of course... ;)

I actually don't have that many synths, and a bunch of what I have left is Alesis stuff that I got when I worked there.

Alesis stuff:

Quadrasynth Plus

QS8

DG8

NanoBass

two QSRs

two DM Pros (w/DM Pro drumkit)

an Ion

and two Andromedas.

Non Alesis keyboards:

Yamaha S90

Kurz K2000

Oberheim OB5

MiniMoog

I also have an old Korg CX3 that lives in a case in the garage....

Non Alesis modules:

Dave Smith Evolver

Korg Wavestation SR

Sequential Prophet VS

Roland D550

Roland MKS80 (w/MPG80 programmer)

Yamaha EX5R

Casio VZ10M

Emu Proteus 2

What do you want to know?

Cool...

I want to know how this sounds compared to other organ clones, such as the Voce V5, Korg CX3/BX3,

Roland VK8, NIB4, etc.

How does the percussion compare? Leslie? Authenticity?

And Finally, do you think I would be able to use this organ to control my Voce V5?

I have not played it next to any of those except NIB4, so I can't really tell you how it compares. What I can tell you is that it sounds quite good to me - I really like it a lot. Very authentic...

The funny thing is that the other Viscount/Oberheim organ clones (OB3, OB3/2) don't sounds very good to me, but I'm told that the OB5 uses different technology than the other two.

Once again, I didn't do comparisons. I can only tell you that I'm quite pleased with pretty much every aspect of the thing -it's quite authentic sounding. Steve Fortner played it, and according to him it sounds as good (if not better) than his VK7.

No idea. I only play it in live situations, so I don't really know how good its MIDI implementation is. However, I do feeel it safe to say that you probably wouldn't need to do that...it really sounds very good.

Hope that helps some...
