Hi, there's probably an article re a modification of a Roland A-80 in that issue. This involves the substitution of a resistor.

Does anyone have this issue in their garage?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave:

I dont have the EM you are looking for. But when I looked at the link for your previous post where they describe the resistor change, something sounded familiar. So I pulled out my A-80 service manual(I keep these even after I sell the unit) and looked at the schematics. Sure enough I have R43 on the Main-A board circled with a 15 k value drawn next to it(by me). This wa probably from verbal instructions I received from Roland many years ago. It shows originally a 5.6K for the A80 and an 18K for the A-50. I circled 3 diodes right next the resistor also but I dont reacall why. Whats worse, I dont remember if I actually made the resistor change or not. If I did I dont think it helped. If I didnt I cant remember why else I opened up the unit. I never had any other problems with it.

Anyway I have the service manual so if I can be of any help let me know. I can steer you to the resistor if you dont find another source of info.

Marky, I'll take a look at my owner's manual. I opened up my A-80, but there were two resistors where I thought there should have been one and it was not the R43 location (as per another set of instructions on the internet).

I am still waiting to hear back from Roland. I don't feel confident doing the work myself now because those resistors are so damn small. I can not see the color strips accurately without a magnifying glass. It's wonderful getting old and reading things at arm's length.

The variable resistor approach does seem the way to go though.
