Tom Fiala
Does anyone own or have experience with the new Motif rack mount unit? I thinking about getting one....I like the Motif sounds, but don't need a sequencer, sampler or another keyboard. Opinions welcomed. Tom F. "It is what it is." Double the polyphony of the motif, and they expanded the effects section as well. Bang for the buck? Definately! I would be torn myself to see what's up on the ES front... --KBC
Tom Fiala
...or should I save my pennies for the K2661, now that I've seen the stuff that Geosync has posted? Tom F. "It is what it is."
Mark Zeger
For around the price of the K2661, you could get a Kurzweil PC2O AND the Motif rack. I know, it's not nearly the same as the K2661 but you'd get many of the best Kurzweil sounds in a nice package.
RABid
Will there be a Motif Rack ES? Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page

Yeah, but the thought of carrying a K2661 under one arm makes me salivate like a wild dog.(I only hope I didn't get infected with rabies)

Tom Fiala
I thought that the Motif rack already has the same polyphony improvements that the ES has. We'll have to ask our local Yami rep. for more details. Tom F. "It is what it is."

aeon
has Yamaha addressed the MIDI timing problems of the Motif Rack when used in multimode? because if that slop, herk and jerk is still present, the decision is easy...no effin way! I had not heard this but I hardly visit the Motifator forum. Thanks for bringing it up. I will research before deciding on the rack. Robert This post edited for speling. aeon
read about it in the SOS review of the Motif rack. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
Mike Martin
Yes there will be a new OS for the Motif Rack that address the timing issues (and some sysex stuff too). -Mike Martin Casio Mike Martin Photography Instagram Facebook The Big Picture Photography Forum on Music Player Network The opinions I post here are my own and do not represent the company I work for. Tom Fiala
Thanks Mike - that clears up that issue. Off I go to the store! Tom F. "It is what it is."
Tom Fiala
Mike - while we're on this topic: are there any PLG boards that you think really complement the stand Motif Rack. (I was wondering about the analog synth and piano ones in particular). Or is it really a bit redundant with the sounds the Motif already has? Tom F. "It is what it is." Mike Martin
My favorite three are the Analog, VL and DX. It really just depends on what your needs are. -Mike Martin Casio Mike Martin Photography Instagram Facebook The Big Picture Photography Forum on Music Player Network The opinions I post here are my own and do not represent the company I work for. Rod S
I'll step in since I own 2 of the PLG cards (in my CS6x) The analog is fantastic - the only 'problem' with it is the cumbersome editing, at least it was in the CS6x/S80/S30 - not sure what has been changed in the MOTIF. Other than that, I really like the way it sounds. No brainer, IMHO - this would be my 1st choice. The PLG PF card is a waste for the MOTIF. I put it in to have some decent piano sounds so I turn my CS6x into a jack of all trades (the original piano is horrible) - but I don't see any reason to put it in other than polyphony reasons. Tom Fiala
My Motif rack arrived yesterday. Yay! Just had some time last night to play around with the presets. In all, very favorable. Nice pianos, EP's, synths and strings. Some fun combo sounds, too. When I have some time, I'll will A/B it with my kurzweil pc2r, and will post my thoughts / opinions. Tom F. "It is what it is." RABid
I noticed that the new Keyboard Mag has a review on the Motif R and just before deadline they got to try the updated OS. Their report is that it does fix the timing issue. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
