The Official 2003 NFL Thread!

GIMME AN F!!!

No, this is not a Woodstock or Country Joe And The Fish thread. It's a notice that the bookstores are flooded with 2003 football magazines, and the NFL preseason kicks off in three weeks!

There's an electricity in the air...

I think it's about time for our esteemed moderator to start the 2003 Football thread! :thu:

Best,

Geoff

P.S. FWIW, Dave started last season's Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?! thread on 07-11-2002, one year ago today. (Hey, it's still the 11th here in LA! :P )

:D Thanks Dave!

Steve, you're right - the seasons are longer than they used to be and there are more games now. On the other hand, one of the reasons I prefer football to other sports is that, even with a 16 game season, there is still a lot more riding on each game than in gazillion game sports such as baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.

For me, the half year between the Super Bowl and the first preseason game is long enough. To each, his own... :)

Best,

Geoff

You mean the Washington Jetskins? I highly doubt it. Sure, maybe their defense will finally live up to its billing and its payroll, but I see little hope for a consistent offense there, and I predict that Spurior is already wearing out his welcome.

Of course, I'm a Giants fan ;):thu:

Agreed. Even a bit too long, IMO...it's not like the NBA/NHL, which have about 6 weeks of off-season...

I am SO ready for some football!

First two pre-season games:

Saturday, Aug. 2 -- American Bowl (Tokyo, Japan)

NY Jets vs. Tampa Bay

Monday, Aug. 4 -- Pro Football Hall of Fame Game (Canton, Ohio)

Green Bay vs. Kansas City

Yeah, baby - bring it on!

So does that mean that we'll be seeing a Dave Bryce created football thread soon then? ;)

I intended that this thread be a request for you to start a football thread, not become the 2003 NFL thread itself. IMO, you should have that honor. :thu:

So, I agree ... Bring It On!!!

Thanks, but...

I don't see any reason why we can't just go with this one. I don't mind giving the honor to you, brother Geoff. :thu:

Besides, I'm not superstitious like steadyb. You think it's coincidence that he started the latest NBA thread so early? ;)

All of us within the Laker organization are committed to giving 110% and doing whatever it takes to bring the NBA title back to it's rightful home in L.A.

I'm just trying to do my part. :thu::cool:

Why? Are the Browns committed to Holcomb?
The talke is that neither one will be satisfied in the backup roll. While most fans support Couch, the punk minority (the bottle throwers, etc.) are pushing hard for Holcomb and are ready to ditch Couch. For a while there was talk of him being traded to Dallas.

I think the Tuna would be quite happy with Tim Couch. Well consider what he's got to work with at present...

How about Bulger? He needs to find a spot somewhere too, while he's hot.

Yeah, they'll be an NFC cellar team just like the old days of LA football :D:D:D:D
So I presume you're talking about the Rams' final five years in LA rather than the 25 years beforehand in which they made the playoffs 16 times and had only five losing seasons.* ;)

Addendum: Y'know, that's another reason I prefer to watch NFL football over other pro sports - there are no incessantly, predictably, boringly dominant franchises.

In other words, each good or great team in the NFL has also spent a fair amount of time defining the word "suck." :D This makes for both a more equitable and exciting league, IMO.

Best,

Geoff

* Actually, the Rams had six losing seasons during that period if you count the strike season of '82 in which replacements/scabs drove the "Rams" to last place. (IIRC, the real Rams won the first two games of that season, while the replacements lost the rest.) I prefer to pretend that year never happened!

Yey Football!!

Geoff- Thank you good man!!

Phil Llarion- You lucky stiff!

Tinder Arts- Who's the starting QB for the Skins this year?

Griffinator- Hey, just wonderin' if you liked T3 as much as I did? That chase scene makes the Matrix 2 chase look amateurish!!

DB- Could just be me & you(team wise) going face to face in the championship again this year...much different outcome this year.
