schmoron13
I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm slowly finding out why buying software has its advantages. Sonar kept crashing so I spent the whopping $200 to get the real upgrade and guess what? it's stable as a rock My vst plugins kept crashing in sonar so I bought the new version of fxpansion's ERR cakewalk's vst-dx adapter and guess what? I had SUPER STABILITY.. I was laughing with my coworker that I consider myself a musician (got a freakin degree in it) and yet I buy multi-thousand dollar graphic applications (3ds max, etc), only to spend countless hours downloading and fixing cracked audio programs...I have seriously started to prioritize my expenditures. that got me thinking about something. I think that the over-exposure that magazines and shows like cribs give to impressive gear lists that pros use (and consumers can assumingly afford) has led to rampant piracy. Everyone is so obsessed with getting a ton of plugins and software packages, that they forget that all you really need is a piano, or guitar, etc. Since I removed my illegal programs, I'm running smoother and more stable, and though I thought I'd miss all this nifty features, I don't find myself longing for them. Also, free plugins usually get the job done. I think if we taught teenagers how to use products CORRECTLY and to their maximum, we'd have much less piracy. However, with magazines constantly hyping the newest gear, people succumb to this "latest and greatest" hegemony... in any case, I'm well on my way to a FULLY LEGITIMATE setup, and man does it feel grrrrrreat!!! daBowsa
I've found that over the years, the time and effort it has taken to find and deal with illegal software is way more expensive than the under $200 price tag for unbelievable programs like NI's B4 and Applied Accoustic's Lounge Lizard. I'm just waiting for a great clav plugin to be developed and I'll be all set!
RABid
I also love being able to talk to a developer as a legit customer and give suggestions that are eventually implimented into the product. More than one developer has sent me beta's of upgrades after I have made suggestions. It is a nice feeling that you do not get with hardware. Actually, I guess people like DB and others here that do patches for hardware synths do get that feeling. Robert This post edited for speling. I actually found a decent one on K-v-R's website entitled Ticky Clav by Big Tick. I played around with it for like 30 seconds last night before bed, and was actually impressed with the sound quality....give it a look, and best of all, IT'S FREE

ulven
I think this is more and more common. I feel that the software thieves brag alot less about the latest cracks these days. Its still there of course, Im not blind, but these days its more like renting a porno vid: You might do it, but you dont necessarily tell everyone you know about it . http://www.twendysplace.co.nz/smilies/buttong.gif
BP3
Maybe steadyb will correct me, but the EVD6 (an absolutely wonderful clav VI) requires Logic to run. Maybe a VSTi will be offered.

Maybe a VSTi will be offered. I haven't heard anything, but that would be cool. Pro Tools users can use it (and all the other Emagic Instruments, except the EXS24 and EVOC20) stand alone, if they get the HTDM Enabler.
RABid
I like some of the responces people are starting to get to their questions on KvR. ----------------------- Question - "How do I complete this task?" Answer - "Look on page 26 of your manual, then page 42." ----------------------- One reason more people are buying software is the updates are frequent and the complex software requires support.
