rast Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 Hey folks, I saw the Leoni machine in EQ magazine and had to have one. I built the machine EXACTLY as described, and cannot get my US-428 to install off of a fresh XP installation. When I run the installation program for the 428, it installs the drivers onto my c drive in a 428 folder in my programs dir. When the machine restarts, and I'm told to connect the 428, it recognizes the hardware, but fails the installation. I looked into it a little further, and found that when I tried a manual install using the device manager, I could select the 428.inf but after I chose that, it would not appear in the box to select the hardware that you wished to install. I've tried reinstalling the OS, but have not included the service pack 1, (I ran the 428 on a similar machine before.) Anyone have any ideas, or a similar situation? regards...
Alndln Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 I don't use XP myself(Win 2K),but aren't you supposed to activate XP everytime you install new hardware? "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"
Anderton Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 You do NOT have to activate XP every time you install a new piece of hardware. You'd have to do something like replace the motherboard, or perhaps even more (e.g., motherboard and new processor) to trigger the activation thang. It seems far more tolerant than was initially feared. Having said that, I have not had a chance to try the US-428 with the Leoni machine, but every other USB device I've used with, including interfaces and MIDI keyboards, have worked fine. Have you checked the TASCAM web site to see if there are updated drivers? Does Jeff the TASCAM Guy have any suggestions? Wewus432 Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 Try this- When you get to that screen that says-Is the device you want to install listed below? select- NO, the device isn't on the list- Click Next- Screen asks-Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware? choose- NO I want to select the hardware from a list. Click Next- This screen say-Select The Hardware You Want To Install-Choose Sound, Video, and Game controllers-Click Next-Choose- Have Disk and then browse to where the drivers are on a CD. That's the process for ME, so it's probably similar for XP. Sounds like you didn't go far enough through that Hardware Wizard to install the drivers completely.
rast Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 Thanks for the replies. Craig, yes I have tried the tascam site, and I have used the latest drivers. I searched their site as well, and to no avail. I do know how to install, and yes I tried to "manually" install the device in the manner specified above. I have tried it multiple times, in different ways. Searching via windows, and selecting from my own specified dir. Again, to no avail. Any other suggestions? Are there any updates to the mobo that would concern the USB port, or any updates to windows XP that you know of that would enhance it as well? Thanks alot for the replies guys, it means alot to know that others are willing to help. Kind regards...
