Infusion Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 Man that Dyno sound was fantastic and everywhere back in the 70's and 80's. Who does it well in the Digital domain these days?
coyote Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 wasn't that the sound the DX7 was trying to achieve? I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football.
Infusion Posted November 6, 2002 Author Posted November 6, 2002 The DX sound IMHO was much more "metallic" sounding, not an accurate "Dyno" sound at all.

Also much more sustain (at least, in the version we're used to hear in those '80 records). BTW, I think Dyno-my-Piano used to offer several kinds of mods, so not all Dyno Rhodes' sounded the same. For my Rhodes needs, I use Pyramid Sound's Real Rhodes CD-Rom for the Kurzweil. It has an excellent Dyno Rhodes, and tweaking it a bit with the Kurz engine makes it great. Unfortunately, I think it only exists in Kurzweil format.
Infusion Posted November 6, 2002 Author Posted November 6, 2002 Kurzweil does indeed make one heck of a Dyno.
VanZea Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 The pyramid sample cd is also available in Akai format. For best Dyno-Rhodes my vote goes to the Yamaha Motif! Grtz,Jeroen
linwood Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 I've got a real Dyno My Rhodes but most of the time I'll use the Yamaha S90. A lot of times it sounds better than the real thing. Go figure. Linwood www.bellmusicproductions.com
jimmymio Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 I'm your S90 sounds great but I must say a "Dyno" that hasn't been serviced by a Dyno tech in over a decade or two may not be a fair representation of the "Dyno" sound. Infusion Posted November 7, 2002 Author Posted November 7, 2002 My Korg SG ProX has a pretty nasty Dyno. And it really gets fat when I layer 2 EPs together. And back in the day my Roland D-70/MKS 20 combo did a pretty nice job. I heard a kick-ass Dyno on what I believe was a Kurzweil K2600 and I'll bet that Motif 8 has a Dyno for you too.
linwood Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 Jimmy, You are probably right. I would love to have my rhodes serviced by someone who knows what they are doing. If your ever in Vegas and need to make some cash for the tables, please look me up. I've got a 73 stage Dyno my and I've also got an extra pre amp and the tri stereo tremelo. Do you know of anyone in my area that has a clue? You can e me at linwood@bellmusicproductions.com
Phil_Grove Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 I use the 60's & 70's expansion board in JV2080, & like the few Dyno EP patches. Good board incidently for Wurli, Pianet & other more obsure KB
Dr Teeth Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 The best DynoPiano I have heard was in the Korg 01/Wfd that i owned. Rebuilding My Self
Togakure99 Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 The new 2600 ROM IV is gonna totally rock out for this type of stuff. Mike Martin has the MP3 demos available at his website: Kurz Connection Check em out. With KDFX, they totally rock. Before the Sonikmatter outage, there was a post going about the ROM IV sounds and how Herbie Hancock couldn't get enough of it. *lol* Brett G. Hall Piano Company, Inc. synthetic Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 I remember General Music had a 1/2 Rompler 1/2 Modeling digital piano that had the best Dyno Rhodes I ever heard. Can't remember the name but it was beautiful. I think they sampled Donald Fagen's Rhodes or something.
