Markyboard Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 First one was Mars in N. VA. Even with a going out of business sale going on (10 or 30% off - mostly 10) they're prices suck. They are taking an additional 10% off the normal price and they still can't match what you pay in CA. Not much left BTW. I do feel bad for the workers there. Nice guys and crappy prices are certainly not their fault. Washington Music Center ( Chuck Lander's).This place gets better everytime I go. They must have just about every keyboard in production today on the floor. Well maybe not quite. Where have you seen a Korg BX3(new one) on display? They got it - real nice with Studio Logic foot pedals hooked up to it. They have all the Access, Nord and Waldorf stuff including the Indigo 2. Wasnt as cool seeing it the second time around (you'll understand in a minute) Got to check out the Yamaha S90 for a friend of mine. Real nice although I think I hear the noise in the triple strike piano patch people are moaning about. I was using headphones in a real noisy environment so I'm not sure how much of an issue this really is. It sure plays real nice though. They had the Andromeda which I saw a few months ago here right before buying one. It was unpowerd this time though and not taking up the premiere position in the room. Another piece of crap synth took its place - something called a... Voyager made buy some has-been named Bob Moog. Oh my God I can't do it. This thing is beautiful - but are they crazy? a signature version on the floor with no protection? When you grab the wheels and feel that wood in the palm of your hand ...uhh...uhh...MUST HAVE. I MUST HAVE ONE!!!
r33k Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 You can find good deals at the MARS liquidation; it just depends on what you're into. I went to the Raleigh store today on a whim, fully expecting to leave empty handed. I walked out with a brand new Yamaha AN200 for $166.49 plus tax. I felt that was a reasonable price... Dan O Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I have been checking out MARS in the Baltimore area and have found only one good deal so far ,a ZOOM 1044 hard disk recorder for $449.99 . 10 tracks , 20 gigs and Phanthom power . The Zoom gives me better effects than the Tascam 788 I had . So ....for the money it was a good buy . No keyboards deals . dano www.esnips.com/web/SongsfromDanO
R. Wiggum Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Hey guys, I went to the one in Miami Beach today and (excuse my language) I didn't find a damn thing that I felt was a reasonable discount maybe because I had too high of hopes. I'll continue checking to see, as hopefully, the discounts decreases, plus I have the luxury of having 3 Mars in my area, its just sad to see people get laid off, including some of my friends. RABid Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 Unfortuantly when a liquidation company takes over stores that are going out of business I can almost become a scam. Some will advertise a "Going out of business" sail for months. They keep bringing merchandise in and milking it for all they can. I hope this does not happen to MARS but it is the perfect time with the holiday season coming fast. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
Felix_dup1 Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 The Mars closings will follow the same formula as in the past. The sales are slated to last approximately 8 weeks (ending around Christmas), with discounts starting at 10% and eventually ending up probably around 70%. Obviously, the good stuff will go first and the crappy stuff won't go until the discounts get deeper. Also, note that the % off won't be storewide, but rather determined by category. So you may find guitar amps at a different discount than guitars, for instance. And thanks for the kind words, Wiggum. Though I don't know you personally, I was laid off from the Mars corporate office along with pretty much all of my friends. I also know a bunch more people at a couple of Mars locations where I used to work, and we're all looking for work. It's a tough time for sure.
