Used Kurzweil PC-88 -- Trash or Repairable Treasure

Hi everyone,

I currently own a Kurzweil PC-88 that I have been playing for about five years. It has only been gigged a few times, but has seen a lot of studio use and playing time. Electronically, it is in great condition; however, as is the case with a lot of these boards, the keybed is in need of repair. It is noisy and has displaced weights, making the keys feel uneven.

I have been shopping for a new 88-key synth, and have pretty much decided on a Yamaha S90 (although the Triton LE 88 looks interesting, but I can't imagine Korg's new 16MB piano sample sounds as good as the S700 sample in the S90. If anyone has played both, please let me know how they stack up - no Korg dealers here in WV).

Anyway, I am wondering if I should put my PC-88 on eBay in an "as is" condition, but including a MTS hardshell case. Would the needed repairs make someone's purchase of this PC-88 cost-prohibitive? I only really want to get around $500-$700 for it.

Any thoughts,

Davin

If you're up-front about the repairs needed, and you're including a hard-shell case, I think you could ask $500-700 with a clear conscience. I've been gigging with mine for five years now and have no desire to replace it yet. :thu:

I agree with Botch...Be totally honest and upfront on EBay. You'd be surprised what people will pay for your stuff, and just how peacefully you can sleep if you're up front and honest. I wouldn't throw any significant money into it either.

Hey Dav -

I've had a PC88 since '95 - and have replaced the full keybed twice along with numerous 'chewing gum and scotch tape' jobs. Be upfront on Ebay - say it's easily repairable and could be gottn into top playing condition relatively easily (which is true) - and you should get what you're thinking you should.

Clarksburg? I'm in eastern KY and ALWAYS - I mean ALWAYS - stop in Clarksburg when driving to the east coast (Philly, NYC). I go to the Chevron station up on the top of that hill - I think on US 50. At times it has seemed like a second home!

Happy Ebay-ing
