Southern California KCers: Jam Nights?

Hey You SoCal guys and gals:

Sometime in the next couple weeks I will likely be going to Pasadena for some job interviews. Which, obviously, means I'm considering a move to Pasadena or thereabouts.

I'd love to catch a jam night somewhere while I'm down there. Also, if I end up moving down there, I'll probably want to hit lots of jam nights while I search for musicians to play with in a more formal way.

So.....where are the good jam nights for rock and/or blues keyboardists? What's the jam "scene" like down there? Obviously the closer to Pasadena the better, but I really don't mind driving 20 or 50 miles for a good night of music if that's what it takes.

Oh, and wish me luck. This particular job is really my dream job, and I hope to get it.

Dave, good luck to you. There are many of us forum members who live in the LA area, and it would be great to have you among us!

I wish I knew of a good jam situation; but I'm involved in the studio scene, and I don't get out much. Awhile back, Dave Bryce was pursuing finding a regular jam night for us locals to hang at, but I don't think he had much luck.

Please let us know how your interview goes. We'll be rooting for you! :thu:

Best,

Geoff

P.S. If you want to check out the local scene and find musicians to work with, a good resource is Music Connection magazine.

Enthusiasm powers the world.

Hey Dave...sorry I didn't respond to this earlier...I've been asking around, haven't found anything really cool yet.

Cozy's has a jam night every week that has some really good players but it's mostly blues music.

The Jam Night I was going to on Sundays always kinda sucked and it just gets worse every week...I won't be going there again anytime soon.

I think Canters still has jams in the Kibutz room on Tuesday nights and Saturdays...I don't know for sure, you might check that out...there was a time when the jams there were totally off the hook but that was a long time ago.

If you do get the job (best of luck :thu: ), we can plan something, keep in touch...I've been meaning to do my own jam night even if it's just a one time thing...we'll see.

Cool, thanks for the tips. Blues is fine with me, so maybe I'll check out Cozy's when I'm down there. I still don't have a firm schedule for the interviews, so I don't know when exactly it will be. Probably 1st or 2nd week of November, for a day or two. Hopefully we can work the scheduling such that my wife can come down with me for a couple extra days of looking around the area.

If I do get moved down there, I'd love to do a jam with you and other SoCal forum folks. Either as a one-time thing or regularly.

In the meantime, however, I'm still living here, which means I have to say..... GO GIANTS!!! :D:thu:
