1stBASS Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I,m sorry for mentioning Cakewalk on you synth experts forum. I'm a new keyboard player, Ive only been at it just under a year, all of this computer based gear is new to me. I guess you guys could recommend some gear maybe I should check out. Holla back!!
ksoper Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Aw, hell--don't mind them. I use Sonar 2 and love it. K.
Raymar Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 People are getting pretty jaded these days. Cakewalk used to be THE sequencer for PCs back in the late 80's and it only worked with midi. I'm using Power Tracks Pro Audio 8 and it doesn't even feature DXi or VSTi synths yet, and has had its share of bugs. Even simple sequencers are an incredible boon if you have an imagination. You shouldn't chase after the past or pin your hopes on the future.

Holla back!!Hey, this is actually a very sweet group of people- probably some thought you were "spamming" for Cakewalk, because that kind of thing happens often. If you were just being enthusiastic, then join the club! Sonar is great, in fact all the audio-midi sequencers out there are great these days, depending on what you like and how you work. One of the moderators here, Craig Anderton, is something of an expert on Sonar. Everybody has opinions about gear, it is fun. Personally I always recommend getting an analog bass synth. -Bobro
MusicaL Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Actually, I saw the and couldn't help myself.... Also, what is the true definition of SHIZ-NIT!!!!!!??? Albert Gear: Yamaha MODX8, Mojo 61, NS2 73, C. Bechstein baby grand.
Jeff Klopmeyer Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 There not a thing wrong with Cakewalk. For folks who have been out of touch, they may be basing their perceptions of earlier verions of Cakewalk, which were indeed very simplified compared to the rest of the pack (DP, Logic, Cubase, etc.) that was out at the time. But Cakewalk 9 has progressed (as well as Sonar), and they are both fine DAW applications. At the end of the day, you should be able to make great music on this platform if that's what you like. Don't get bummed out about people's opinions. Everyone I know is a little snarky about gear. This is normal. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon
Jeff Klopmeyer Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Oh, and one more thing. I can see why you were impressed by Cakewalk, especially as someone just getting into computer-based audio production. If you want to take a look at some similar applications for the PC, you may want to check out Cubase VST and Nuendo (from Steinberg), Sonar (also from Cakewalk), Pro Tools Free (Digidesign), and Cool Edit Pro (Syntrillium). - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon
soapbox Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 1stBASS, I'd like to wish you a hearty "welcome" to The Keyboard Corner! We may have gotten off to a bumpy start, but IMHO we really are an unusually supportive and friendly bunch here. Why not tell us a little more about yourself? Reply in our Introductions thread. You can find out more about us as well by reading our posts there. I'm happy that you're enjoying your Cakewalk DAW. That's really all that matters. We each have our own taste in software; and while feature comparisons may be objective, the user experience is often subjective. So, don't sweat what other people think as long as you're having fun. I hope you'll have fun here too! Best, Geoff Enthusiasm powers the world. Craig Anderton's Archiving Article
Addix Metzatricity Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Well... I feel I should apologize for my misunderstanding... I use Sonar as well. I just thought it was spam. Nothing against Cakewalk! Or you, 1stBass. "Bass isn't just for breakfast anymore..." http://www.mp3.com/Addix_Metzatricity
Jazzman Posted October 24, 2002 Posted October 24, 2002 A good friend of mine uses "Paris" it sounded great to me . He builds studios, has one of his own, and I listened to a "Radio Ready" song that went on a prime radio station. Paris , from what I understand is real close to Protools, but 1/2 the price!! Comments............. My fade-out....... Jazzman
Pat Azzarello Posted October 24, 2002 Posted October 24, 2002 Actually, I try to go out of my way to meet people from this forum when I travel because they are a pretty good bunch. And maybe someone mentioned this before, but we've had some "members" whose first (and only) posts try to use the forum for advertising/marketing. That is generally looked down upon - just bad timing for one of your first posts... I wouldn't worry about it, and enjoy the forum - it's great. BTW - I'm a Sonar 2 guy, and really like it. RobT Posted October 24, 2002 Posted October 24, 2002 You have just entered the Twilight Zone. Nah. This jaded bunch misjudged you as a spammer. I like Sonar and Nuendo myself. You might want to check out http://www.musicgearnetwork.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=5;DaysPrune=10 for a kinder, gentler forum and of course if you really play bass.
