micah Posted October 18, 2002 Posted October 18, 2002 I have a Yamaha Motif but I hear that the onboard sampler on it is not as good as a regular hardware based sampler. Any thoughs or ideas? Should I buy a regular sampler and if so, can you point me out to one that would be good for me to start with?

RABid Posted October 19, 2002 Posted October 19, 2002 If you have a computer for the interface and you can swing it, the Akai Z series is very easy to use. As for budget consider the low end E-mu. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
Addix Metzatricity Posted October 19, 2002 Posted October 19, 2002 Can that E-Mu also be used as a MIDI controller for soft-synths? "Bass isn't just for breakfast anymore..." http://www.mp3.com/Addix_Metzatricity
RABid Posted October 19, 2002 Posted October 19, 2002 No. The budget E-mu samplers are rack versions. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
aliengroover Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 I'm not a fan of the Motif, but is has a very good, versatile sampler. I don't know what you're looking to do that you feel you need a better sampler. Have you really dug deep into it? Most people with workstations with sampling rarely do (I haven't exhausted my Triton's yet, but I know it will serve my needs capably). In any case, nothing "budget" is going to serve you better than what you have (plus you gotta love saving to SmartMedia for fast saving/loading). Only look at the EMU ESI2000 is you love the sound. Other than that, the Akai Z-series is a good way to go. Really nifty machines whose problems will be ironed out soon (OS bugs as always). Peace If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do suck seed!
micah Posted October 22, 2002 Author Posted October 22, 2002 Well, I tried to do my first sample and it came out pretty crappy. Can anyone point me out to a resource with all the info on how and what you need to get started on sampling sounds and instruments into your sampler?
