timrocker Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Do you ever dream up band names that are "out there". I was napping a little bit ago and came up with "The Food Eaters". Yeah. A couple of months ago at was "Al Kida and The Talibanners. Can't get much more wack than Fountains Of Wayne. Saw them last night in concert. What were they thinking, when they settled on that for a name? Anybody else think up names?
Duhduh Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I gotta few (These were actual considerations): Cigarette Icecream Razzamatazz Flip Side Chocolate Mayonaisse Flea Bitten Varmints Necromancer "Meat is the only thing you need beside beer! Big hunks of meat and BEER!!...Lots of freakin' BEER." "Hey, I'm not Jesus Christ, I can't turn water into wine. The best I can do is turn beer into urine." timrocker Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 Niiiice! What did you wind up going with?
whitefang Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Long time ago, the band I was in had a new name every WEEK! As it was the '60's, anything started going. Depended on where we looked. Detroit Edison is promoting home heating by electricity? Hey, there ya go! "Electric Heat" What does that say at the top of the Grandfather clock? Cool! "Tempus Fugit" Your Dad's reading WHAT to your little brother? Alladin? All-RIGHTY, then! "Magic Lamp" That last one was the hardest, because some people, steeped in traditional sounding band names, kept referring to us as "The Magic Lamps", and thought the name dumb. Either way, maybe it was. But "Magic Lamp" sounded better without "The" added to it, as far as WE were concerned. By the way, "Wacked Band" is a good name, too! Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
KHAN Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Hammer Damage The Buster Hyman Project Putrid Rage Five Satin Wewus' So Many Drummers. So Little Time...
Tedster Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Buns of Steel. I dunno...there are so many clever, offbeat band names I've heard. One of the funniest I've heard in awhile is "The Swinging Johnsons". I liked "Cool Ray and the Polaroids", too. Or takeoffs on famous names, like "Dread Zeppelin". Can make your own up...The Meatles, what have you. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

patrick_dont_fret Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Have your cake and eat it too. Check this out. The most extensive list of weird band names ever. All by a local radio station that rocks out. Check this site out here . Everything from names that start with numbers to Z, and everything in between. I love it.

Lee Flier Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I was briefly in a band called Died Black Hair. This was in L.A. and it was meant to make fun of all the hair metal bands. None of us actually had black hair, dyed or otherwise. :D Our bass player was in a band called the Purple Bishops, and another called the Impotent Dildos - my personal favorite. :D And yeah Tim, Fountains of Wayne is pretty out there. You know there's a band out here called I Am The World Trade Center. And they've been around for years so you can imagine they were pretty freaked about 9/11. They stopped using the name for awhile but have gone back to it now. I have no idea why they called it that in the first place! Another favorite local band name: Kathleen Turner Overdrive. A friend of mine and I were thinking of whack band names one night and he came up with the Cock Ringling Brothers. :D That one's GOT to be used one of these days!

BrianT Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I sort of like the concept of: The Nashvillage People. One fem dude crossdressing in a hoopskirt. One "Deliverance" type. One guy in a Confederate soldier getup. Complete with cannon ramrod. One Elvis impersonator. Might sell a few CDs. Regards, Brian T
Meriphew_dup1 Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Band, James Band (good if your name happens to be James). www.meriphew.com
S_Gould Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Many years ago (in a galaxy not so far away...) I was in a band that went by a different name every time we played BUT, we had a theme going. The name had to have "Fred" in it, and it had to be a takeoff of a famous band - Grateful Fred, Fred Zepplin, Simply Fred, Talking Freds, Pink Fred... I tried to get the guys to drop it when the names started getting lame (Tony Orlando & Fred) but they wouldn't give it up - I wanted to do at least one gig as Mike Stand and the Speakers...
