CP Posted October 10, 2002 Posted October 10, 2002 Which one is better. Looking for a inexpensive sound module to go with my P80. Would like some nice EP sounds and a few organs. Don't need anything more expensive. Any suggestions. Anybody use these? I heard the proteus 1000 and roland jv 1010 today in Sam Ash. I like the sounds of the proteus better. Thanks.
aliengroover Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 No offense...and I'm by no means trying to "flame" you...but why do people ask questions like this? I could see if you're in the middle of Jabip and there's not a music store for hours and you plan on buying one or the other from one of the online stores. But you went to the store and listened to them and decided what one you liked best. Huh? Okay...now that I got that off of my chest... I use a JV-1010 and I really dig it for the sound. I got it when it came out to add sounds to my then current rig. I think Roland has the best overall sounds, but the Composer soundset, I think, has some inspiring EPs. I also have a MoPhatt (among other things) and plan on adding that ROM (released under the "Pure Pop" or something title). Also look at the XV2020. A bit more x-pensive than the others (200 clams), but with better x-pandability and more sounds (and, to me, it sounds better than the 1010). Sorry for the opening remarks, but hope the rest helps. Peace If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do suck seed!

It hard to even hear yourself speak, never mind get a true feel for what the gear sounds like. Plus listening to something for 15 minutes is not enough time to get a true indication of the gear. Just my thoughts.
aliengroover Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Haha, that's funny AND true about trying to hear yourself. And that's EXACTLY why I NEVER go to check out gear late in the day. The store in King of Prussia,PA (I'm not into naming) is notorious for a MAJOR racket. Hit them up first thing in the morning. And make sure you check the settings on the mixer the board is plugged into. I've seen a store or two "juice" the EQ. Another thing to consider is picking up Future Music every now and then. They include a CD with demos of gear that they review (plus demos of really cool software!). I've used it to make a couple of decisions because you get to sit in the comfort of your own home/studio and hear how it sounds. Peace If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do suck seed!
