Help with Kawai Q-80EX

Hi All:

 

I am hoping to find someone out there that owns one of these sequencers. I recently purchased a used one which I believe is defective, but I don't have a Users Manual to confirm I'm doing things correctly.

 

So if you do have one of these, could you tell me what happens when you press the Record button in order to record a sequence. Does the bar counter start incrementing? Is there any indication that you are receiving any Midi signal etc.
