Chris Maxin Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 Listening to his work over the years it is evident that he is fond of using the same instruments on many of his recordings such as piano's, flute, harp, strings ect. All of which sound wonderful! Does anyone know in particular what makes/models of synths he uses ?
Pim Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 What he uses is irrelevant. It's what he does with the synths - that's what really counts. If you and I make some programs on the same synth Vangelis uses, we would still sound different. Why? Because you are you and I am I. That's why I love synthesizer. The most personal instrument there is. My Music I always wondered what happened after the fade out?
burlingame2 Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 I guess a person can make the music or the instrument as personal as he wants it to be and still ask what tools he uses in making his compositions. Sure there`s a line to draw in asking every little bit of information in the belief that this will make your statement as a musician more viable. Not that it won`t help. Who can say whether information is relative to your learning music as an expression or not.
sbrock1san.rr.com Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 I found a website that listed the gear that Vangelis used over the years, and it's almost every synth and sampler ever made. An easier question would be "what hasn't Vangelis used ?"

Tusker Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 He did use some unusual features, like the ribbon controller on the CS80, as well as the polyphonic LFOs . Map the LFO speed to keyboard position, and each note in a pad has a slightly different rate of vibrato, like a string section.

Synthguy Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Pim, could I bunk with you sometime? (Secretly, synthguy intends to slip a secret drink on Pim, which will interact with his neu-aural synthapses, and orient all of his creative energies to crafting the ultimate synth prog-pop album, based heavily on the Alesis Andromeda, along with every other keyboard ever made. And in a devious way, evidenced by a lengthy diatribe delivered in third person!) This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
