burningbusch Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 I know there are a fair number of Mac users who also have a PC for things like GigaSampler. Recently I downloaded the demo version of Cubase SX. This is Cubase designed from the ground up for Windows XP. It's very nice and includes a great sounding soft synth called A1 (plus others). The demo has the fairly standard "can't save" type limitations, but it does not appear to ever time-out. What's really nice is that you can load in the VSTi A1 soft synth and connect it to your Mac just like you would Giga. You can load in preset banks and even save changes to the presets--no restrictions that I could determine. The fact that you can't save projects isn't a big deal at all. It takes about 15 seconds to assign A1 to a MIDI port and the outputs to your soundcard. Additionally, Cubase SX is an excellent VSTi host platform. If a soft synth can't run on Cubase, it's probably not worth having (I've tried other VSTi hosts and they always seem to have a lot of issues with certain soft synths). The VSTi world is a bit more plentiful on the PC than the Mac anyway. This allows you to take advantage of it for free. FYI, you all probably knew this already. Busch.
