JoeC Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 I've been looking for quite some time for two authentic sounding patches (preferably emulations, but samples will do too) of two classic synth sounds originated by Keith Emerson, back in the 70s. They are Moog sounds from two rock ballads--those from "Lucky Man" and from "From The Beginning." I have already asked this question of Kurzweil tech support, and posted it on Sonikmatter. There was a Keith Emerson CD containing WAV samples of these patches for sale about five years ago, but it is no longer available (the company went out of business). I would even buy this entire CD if anyone is willing to sell it. Does anyone have any idea where I might find Kurzweil emulations or samples in Kurzweil or WAV format??? Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated!
ELP71 Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 Hey man - I found a decent 'Lucky Man' patch on a factory sample floppy that came with my K2000 back in '93. The name of the patch is 'LuckyMoogLead' or something like that - and its killer. I use it literally every gig. As for the other patch (From The Beginning) - haven't run across one yet. It'll be interesting to see who posts here... Weasels ripped my flesh. Rzzzzzzz.
Mike Martin Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 There is a LuckyMan program in the "Program Farm" disks that come with the K2600. It was one of the stock patches on the K2000. BTW- There a few thousand more sounds on the Kurzweil FTP site. -Mike Martin Casio Mike Martin Photography Instagram Facebook The Big Picture Photography Forum on Music Player Network The opinions I post here are my own and do not represent the company I work for.
JoeC Posted October 2, 2002 Author Posted October 2, 2002 Thanks ELP71. I think I have and am currently using a modified version of the "LuckyLead" patch you mentioned. I agree that the "LuckyLead" patch for the K2600 sounded good as is. I made it better by finding the K2600 version of the effect used on a Yamaha EX-5 that I used to own. The EX-5 had this patch "down to a T." (I sold the EX-5 because I only carried it around for the two ELP sounds and one other. All the other sounds I need are far better on my K2600.) Anyway, the "LuckyLead" sound I'm using is better now because I found a similar effect on the K2600 used on the EX-5, but it's just not as fat, hollow (reedy), and moving (with motion) as it needs to be to emulate the Moog. I even tried to duplicate layers and offset pitch above and below to create sound motion and thickness, but it aint there yet. (Oh, by the way, I also contacted Chicken Systems to see about converting the few EX-5 patches/samples I needed to K2600 format, but they said they don't offer conversion from the EX-5 to K2600 yet, and probably won't anytime soon.) Anyway, I've given up trying to find the right synth sound to work from on my K2600. That's why I'm looking for an emulation made by a programmer or a sample of the Moog itself.
JoeC Posted October 2, 2002 Author Posted October 2, 2002 Thanks Mike. This may sound really dumb, but what is the Kurzweil FTP site. Is that Sonikmatter or the manufacturer's site. If it's Kurweil's site, I don't think I've ever found it because I don't ever recall--when I've been on the KurweilMusicSystems site--scrolling through patches/samples the way I have on Sonikmatter. What am I missing here???
