wolfenstone Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 Does anyone know of a softare synthesizer? I travel alot for business and can't take my xp60 with me. I use both pro tools and logic audio as sequencers and would like to be able to input from my laptop keyboard and not have to have a separate controller. Thanks for any help. Wolf
RABid Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 First I will say don't discard the possibility of hardware. There are some small hardware solutions that work well. Something like a Yamaha DX200 is very easy to pack. Mine just made it round trip packed away in the middle of my largest piece of checked baggage. It survived with no problems. The largest item I have taken is an Emu XL7 and it was very handy. For software it depends on what you want to do. XL versions of sequencers usually come with plenty of software sound sources to get your through a trip. Something like SonicSynth or Live Synth Pro can cover workstation sounds if you want more quality. The first time you pack a Oxygen 8 keyboard you will forget about trying to enter notes from a laptop keyboard. If you do pattern sequencing consider Fruity Loops. It has enough sound sources to keep you going. Reason is also a nice all in one package but it is too much of a closed system for my taste. Robert This post edited for speling. WolfI'd say look into Propellerheads Reason 2.0 software and an Oxygen 8 controller ! This is one system that is both powerful on your laptop and the Oxygen 8 is so small and portable that you can load in and out without a problem! The sound is unbeatable for the price/performance ratio and the solution is so elegant that you will not want to stop using it once you get home. Best of luck, - DJDM DJDM.com
progfusion74 Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 I think the Oxygen 8 + either Reason or Orion Pro/Platinum would be ideal. Orion is also a VST host, so you can load up some other synths as well. prog http://www.indiegrooves.com/dnm/images/dnm_small.gif My Blog
