Intheether Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 ...Until you read the Oct. 2002 Keyboard. Spec by Spec comparison of the big three (Triton S., Fantom, Motif). Written in plain English, complete with background on concepts and design...awesome article. Only downside is - I wish I was in the market, or had the extra $, for the Motif. *
Postman Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 The fact that they left out the K2600 has got the Kurzweil online community in a huff. Is it a keyboard or a religion? Hard to tell sometimes. It's yesterday's news, but it's still a top notch board, maybe the cream of the crop. You ought to give it a listen if you're looking for a workstation. Then again... In other news, rumour has it that next weekend's AES is going to be a big event for Kurzweil. A number of new products are going to be introduced. Should be interesting.
Intheether Posted September 26, 2002 Author Posted September 26, 2002 Good point...I hadn't even considered the K2600's absence. I hate to say it because IMHO the Kurz is barnone the best workstation.... but it's more pricey and less available (at the bigger chains) than Roland, Korg or Yamaha. Probably the reason for it's omission. At least every couple of weeks someone will post here asking to compare the three detailed in the article, so I figured why not make them aware of this really well written piece? I enjoyed it and I'm not even in the market. *
sbrock1san.rr.com Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 Motif has the sound and samples I like best, and specs don't mean much if the sound isn't there. I won't buy another Roland product- I'm allergic to their interfaces and manuals.
ELP71 Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 Any rumors regarding what Kurzweil might unveil next week? New 61-note synth or module? Weasels ripped my flesh. Rzzzzzzz.
Carlito Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 Maybe Geosync could tell us more about it.
Geosync Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 If I told you, I'd have to Kill you We will unveil more products than ever before. I'm excited and very tired Take Care, George Hamilton Yamaha US
RABid Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I would love to see Kurz do a VA. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
Superbobus Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I won't buy another Roland product- I'm allergic to their interfaces and manuals. Then you'll have some trouble with Motif... Great workstation but with that OS the accent is more on "work" than "station". http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.
Intheether Posted September 27, 2002 Author Posted September 27, 2002 I'd like to know a little more about the REX-style drum stuff with the Motif as well as the resampling of internal sounds. Sounds really unique. When I played the Fantom, I thought it was so easy to navigate - very intuitive. I feel pretty ignorant because I thought Roland was a USA company - but the HQ are in Japan. The background on keyboard inception/design was so interesting to me because I'm not an industry insider and I find the process as exciting as the end result. *

Stephen Fortner Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I'll see you, and your new goodies, at AES, George, and hopefully Mike M. too. I'll be there with the ADAM people. I'm hoping for a do-all synth to replace my fourth K2000, a staple of my rig for going on ten years now. Decent ones are getting harder to find, and my practice has been to buy 'em and play 'em into the ground. Dan South Posted September 28, 2002 Posted September 28, 2002 Yeah, it's an excellent series of articles, although I haven't read through the whole thing yet. Highly useful info; Keyboard should be commended. The K2600 has been out for a few years. Keyboard has printed a review and a "hot tips" article for the board already. The other models are less than a year old and have had less written about them to date. The decision to restrict the comparison to new models makes perfect sense. Furthermore, the articles contain a LOT of information. If they'd added another keyboard, they would have had to have expanded the number of pages (expensive) and probably would not have made their deadlines. The Black Knight always triumphs!
