alby Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 It looks like Windows 2000 comes with MS Windows Wavetable Synthesizer - with Roland Sound Canvas digital samples - and its free. How does this MS Synthesizer compare with the other commercial ones? Also, is the latency noticable when playing live with a soft synth? alby
Pim Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 I don't have any experience with it, but most MS Windows users like me have a soundcard with a GM soundset. The G(eneral) M(idi) kit is a kind of Soundcanvas soundset with a lot of piano's, organs, horns, basses, drums etc. Most softsynths however are dedicated to do electronical sounds. Typical synthesizer - less "natural" sounds. My Music I always wondered what happened after the fade out?
progfusion74 Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 When playing sounds on your onbaord GM set there should be no latency. There are of course lots of soft synths out there, ranging for sample playback to subtractive synthesis and even modular. If you tell us what your goals are, I am sure people here could recommend synths to you. prog http://www.indiegrooves.com/dnm/images/dnm_small.gif My Blog
