marino Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 OK so I had scheduled a few hours in a studio with a nice piano today - I planned to record my tune for the compilation. A trio piece: Piano, bass, percussion, all recorded in a "live" fashion. Well, to make it short, the piano was unplayable. It turned out they had a fire a few weeks before, and that must have messed with the balance of the wood, metal, felt and whatever on the instrument. It was in tune, to be sure. But with recurrent squeaks, rumbles, clicks and other assorted noises, plus the keyboard was very unbalanced and the tone rather muffled. After a few tries, I just called it quit and sent everybody home. The studio guys did apologize - but now I'm screwed. Given everybody's schedules, and admitting I'll find another available place to record, the first day I have for another session is on next Monday, September 30th - the last useful day we set for Dave to have all the pieces in his hands. You already guessed what follows. Dave, and everyone on the Corner - Am I allowed a few more days? Even if I mix the same day and don't do any mastering, it will take a few days to arrive. If the answer is no, I'm OK with that - I'm not one to fight the rules. Fact is, it took me a while to select the piece I wanted to send; and after much thinking, I returned to my *original* idea from a month before. So I'm here waiting a word from the Corner - Dave and all, please give me your opinion. Thanks! Carlo
Dave Bryce Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 Carlo, Of course you can take more time - we're not under anyone's hard and fast deadline here other than the one that I arbitrarily chose; plus, I doubt very much that I'll get to sequencing and mastering this puppy until well after the AES show (10/5-10/8). Relax. Take your time... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
