Hi All, I am interested in buying a keyboard that I can learn to play the piano with. I am looking to spend around 300 dollars. I don't want to be stupid and listen only to sales person's advice, so I came here to ask your all's advice before I purchase the one I saw at costco.

Thanks for the Advice

If you want to learn how the play the PIANO, you want a piano, digital or conventional. At least you'll need 88 weighted/hammer action keys.

If you want to learn how to play the keyboard, then just about anything you get is fine... Mine's cheap, 61 keys, feels like a toy, 8 note (or so) polyphony. Nothin' special... But it makes noise and has a MIDI out. So it works for me. Cost me less than $100 new.

Just my opinion.

Yamaha has a keyboard that teaches as well as plays. It's a PSR-230 I think, and its in your price range. Kcbass

Hey Kevin. Add another $100.00 and get a Yamaha ypp200. For $399.00, you get a 88semi-weighted keyboard with stand and a pedal.check it out at www.musiciansfriend.com or your local music store.(Guitar Center,etc.).One thing. It is a electronic piano, with 8 different sounds, not a portable keyboard with auto accompaniment.Good luck.

I comletely agree, the weight and feel of the keys is a huge part of the expressiveness of a piano, and learning to play piano without that would be like learning to swim without water.

However, if you just want to play organ and/or synthesizer stuff, any keybed is fine for starters.

Well, I think that the very best is to get a real piano, nothing else feels like that. You will understand that once you get the technique. You can get and old piano for that amount of money, but you have to really look for it. Try to get a 250 usd piano and use another 100 usd to fix it.

Well, that's what I would do... And welcome to the club.
