Stage Piano

I need to get myself a stage piano but I don't really know which one.

The price mustn't be too high (between $1000 - $2000), the sound, and

action have to be good quality. but the most important thing is the

weight, because I have to carry it around a lot. I've been thinking

about the Kawai ES1, affordable, and not too heavy, but only 32 notes

of poly. I haven't played on this board yet so I don't know how it

sounds and feels. Have you played on this board or if you have an other

suggestion, please let me know. thanks in advance.

Have you tried out the Yamaha P-80? It´s got a great keyboard and sounds really good. I don´t think it´s too heavy; I used to haul mine around on the subway in a gigbag with a shoulder strap with the stand in my other hand. And I´m not a big guy.

IMHO, Roland make some of the best keyboards around. Try their 'Digital Stage Piano' series - perhaps the RD-150 would suit you?

Avoid the RD150 - it has an entry level action.

(That's a nice way of saying it sucks)

The actions on the other Roland models are fine.

Normally I would give a strong endorsement to the RD-700. But if weight is your primary consideration, I don't know. That thing is a BEAST. I haven't actually weighed it, but with the road case it's gotta be 60 pounds or more (sorry I don't know the metric conversion for weight off the top of my head, normally I post in both US and metric).

Of course, with weighted keys as a consideration, your not going to find anything light. I mean, the keys are *weighted*. But still, I think there's gotta be something lighter than the RD-700.

For a few $$$ more you can get the P120 with better sounds and better action. Compare it to the Roland FP3. Forget about the RD150, feels like plastic. RD700, PC2 and S90 are around or a little over $2000, I think. They're great.

I got my RD-700 from Guitar Center in San Jose for USD 1800, tax included.

I have played the P-80 & I really love the hammer touch feel, also the the slim size of the body.

I have planned to get one but last time I heard someone said that the midi after touch kinda weak (not sensitive). Is that true?

Thanks for pointing that out, Byrdman. I haven't actually tried the RD150, I have the RD700 and reckon it's great. However I didn't think that that fitted into Ultimate's price range.
